USA Gymnastics TV Campaign
member CLUB GUIDELINES
During the national television broadcast of the 2012 Summer
Olympics, USA Gymnastics will air two television public service
announcements designed to promote club participation among
children of all ages. As a Member Club, you have the opportunity
to customize these 30-second commercials with your very own
club name and contact information.
These commercial files contain important messages for Clubs,
coaches and the public. They can be broadcast at any time of the
year, but they will be especially poignant when aired before,
during and after the Summer Olympics. Regardless of the time of
year, these customized commercials will be a great advertising
tool for your Club.
We have provided commercial files containing a 5-second “space”
toward the end. This space allows you (with the assistance of
your local TV station) to customize the commercials by inserting
your club name and club contact information. Following are some
recommended steps and talking points to aid you in the purchase
and broadcast of your very own USA Gymnastics TV commercial(s).

TV Commercial(s) “Life Needs Agility” and “Life Needs Confidence”
1) Determine your budget
How much do you have to spend on the television advertising? Due to the limited availability of spots
during the Olympics broadcast, you may learn that the airtime during the NBC broadcast is more
expensive than at other times of the year.
2) Select 1 or 2 commercials
Review the low-res versions of the commercials at usagymclub.com. Decide if you want to broadcast
one or both of the commercials. Note: these files are not broadcast quality and should NOT be used by
your TV station. Once you make the decision to advertise, you will need to have your station sales
representative contact USA Gymnastics in order to obtain instructions for downloading high resolution
files (see #4 below).
3) Identify your local NBC affiliate
If you do not already have a sales contact at your local NBC station, refer to the provided list to find this
station in your city/market. Contact the TV station and ask to speak to someone in the Sales Department.
All of your communication from this point forward should be with your Sales Representative. It is his/her
job to make sure that you are satisfied.
4)Talking points for your conversation with your Sales Representative
After identifying your organization’s name and your title, use these talking points as a guideline
for the purchase of airtime:
.. Tell your Sales Rep you have 1 or 2 commercials (depending upon item 2 above) which you’d
like to customize with your club logo and club contact info.
.. Confirm with your Sales Rep that you will have an opportunity to see the customization before
the commercial airs.
.. Ask your Sales Rep to check for availability and cost to air these commercials during the Summer
Olympics broadcast on their station. If you have a set budget you should share this info with your
Sales Rep at this time. If your club is a not-for-profit organization, tell your Sales Rep as some
(not all) stations will offer a slightly discounted rate for not-for-profit organizations.
.. Tell your Sales Rep that you will provide detailed instructions for the station’s production department
in order for their team to obtain broadcast-quality digital files in High Definition (HD)
and Standard Definition (SD) format.
.. Ask your Sales Rep to have a response for you within three business days. Many advertisers such
as yourself will want to air their commercials during the Summer Olympics so the sooner you
contact your Sales Rep, the better.

5) Approve your budget and place your order
After you have reviewed the information provided by your Sales Rep and have placed your order, you will
need to provide the following items to your Sales Rep:
.. The enclosed instruction sheet “STATION GUIDELINES” so he/she may give this information to their
production team and the production team can contact the appropriate USA Gymnastics personnel
and download the elements needed to create your customized TV commercial(s)
.. Your club website address (URL) and phone number (including area code)
.. Your club logo (which includes the graphic and your club name) in one of the following file types:
A) Vector-based Adobe Illustrator EPS file (with all type outlined)
B) 300 dpi or greater Adobe Photoshop PSD or Adobe Photoshop TIFF file (with all type outlined) and saved at a minimum of 5'' wide x 5'' tall
6) Approve your customized commercial(s)
Your local TV station will customize your commercial(s) with the addition of your club logo and contact
information. You must insist with your Sales Rep that you approve the customized commercials before they
are broadcast. You will need to establish the way in which you want to approve the commercials. In some
cases, you may be required to set a meeting with your Sales Rep to approve the customized commercial(s)
at their station.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What if it’s too expensive to air my commercials or the Olympics
time is already booked?
Don’t give up! Ask your Sales Rep for availability and cost to air the commercials immediately before
and immediately after the Summer Olympics broadcast with these instructions:
.. I want my commercials to be seen by parents of young kids (especially moms).
.. I want my commercials to air between the hours of 6am and 11pm (mention “no overnights”).
Can I broadcast the commercials during other times of the year?
Yes! Commercials can be aired at any time during the year, but because USA Gymnastics is airing their
commercials during the Summer Olympics, it may be most advantageous for your club to air your
customized commercials in the few weeks prior to or immediately following the Olympics broadcast.
What if there’s no NBC affiliate station in my city/market?
There are some states (Delaware, New Hampshire) which do not have any NBC affiliate stations.
In these cases, please contact your local cable system (ie. Comcast, Time Warner, Insight, etc.) and review
items 1-6 on this document with your cable sales rep.
