Vincenzo Gioberti (1801-1852)
Italian philosopher, publicist and politician; believed in the
idea of the supremacy of Italy founded on the leadership
of the Pope.
Code Napoleon
French civil code established under Napoleon that allowed
for freedom of religion and emphasized equality of rights
in all spheres for everyone.
Marquis d’Azeglio (1798-1866)
Italian statesman, novelist and painter; pointed out the
evils of foreign domination in Italy; desired to awaken
national feeling in Italy.
Giuseppe Mazzini (1805 – 1872)
Italian politician, journalist and activist for the unification
of Italy; founder of ‘Young Italy’; father of Italian
nationalism.
