Students will
1. Read “Midsummer Night’s Dream”
2. Interpret text and apply it to modern definitions
3. Develop reading comprehension
Materials:
1. Printed copies of the text (particularly dialogue between Hermia, Demetrius, Lysander, and
Helena)
2. Printed copy of the assignment (to follow)
3. Two different colored markers

5. Computers
Class Duration: 1 day
Activities:
Students should read Act II scene ii through Act III scene ii prior to class
1. Split class into groups. Each group represents a character:
a. Hermia
b. Demetrius
c. Lysander
d. Helena
2. The students will read through the text as their assigned character. Phrases of love or
adoration are underlined in one color, insults in another.
3. Each student group gets a copy of the assignment:
a. Hermia:
i. Prior to Pucks’ application of the love juice, what would Hermia say to
Lysander? Find a quote.

ii. What does this quote mean in modern terms?
iii. Create a Voki character to represent Hermia. In the text box, write your
groups’ modern phrase for Hermia.
iv. Create a presentation for the class:

2. Read the quote from the play aloud to the class.
3. Play your Voki character.
v. After the application of the love juice, things change a bit. What would Hermia
say to another character after Puck made his mistake?
