New stormwater & low impact development regulations are coming to Alberta. This session will help you ensure you are prepared.
The Importance of Municipal Soil Volume Standards & Implications for Stormwater- Management & the
Urban Forest
Soil Volume standards create the necessary ecological conditions to:
• Achieve Urban Canopy targets by expanding the Urban Forest
• Managing stormwater through source controls in dense urban centers
This lecture will review the science behind soil volume standards and the various Suspended Pavement systems
that make them possible including Silva Cells and sidewalk trenches. We will look at successful Municipal Soil
Volume Standards and why they work.
Silva Cells and Stormwater Management
This session will look at how Silva Cell technology can be used to integrate stormwater management and large
healthy trees into a single operational system. Through the use of case studies we will look at how the Silva Cells
can be used to capture stormwater from sidewalks, plazas, streets and roof leaders. The stormwater can be managed as a source control on site while contributing to the growth of healthy street trees.

Parks & Facility Risk Management Course | 1:00 PM – 4:30 PM | $175
Risk Management is a common sense approach to managing our risks. It’s a decision making process to deal
with the unfavourable results from possible incidents or accidents. The key steps to risk management include
the review and modification of existing plans, which are created as a system of prevention. The purpose of a
risk management plan is the conservation of an organization’s resources from accidental loss. Such losses could
include human, financial, physical and natural resources.
This course looks at what risk management processes are, the benefits of a risk management program and what
you can do to develop a risk management system in your facility.
Difficult (fierce) conversations | 1:00 PM – 4:30 PM | $175
What are the conversations you’ve been unable or unwilling to have- with your boss, colleague, employee, customer, husband, parent, child or yourself- that is you were able to have, might change everything? A fierce or difficult
conversation is one in which we come out from behind ourselves into the conversation and make it real. It is not
cruel, barbarous or threatening. If you were to look at a thesaurus fierce has the following synonyms: robust, intense, strong, powerful, passionate, eager unbridled, uncurbed, untamed.
This session will provide attendees with tools to have those difficult conversations.
