DESCRIPTION OF FINDINGS & CONCLUSIONS
A. Description of Facility
Holy Family Preschool program is located in the Holy Family School building near the
intersection of Wilkinson Street and Lincoln Street in East Tawas Michigan.
Approved space (room numbers, sizes, capacity and ages of children for which
each room/well-defined space is approved, etc.):
The preschool program will be held in classroom 5, which measures 32 feet by 27 feet,
and equals 864 square feet. Based on the 35 square feet per child rule this classroom
has more than enough space for the requested capacity of 20 children, aged three
years to six years old.
The following rooms are approved as additional child use space and were not used to
determine the center’s total capacity:
2
The gym measures 55 feet by 85 feet equal to 4675 square feet. Based on 35 square
feet per child rule this is enough space for a room capacity of 133 children, aged three
years to six years old.
The library is 35 feet by 35 feet equal to1225 square feet, which is adequate space for
35 children, aged three years to six years old.
The cafeteria is 50 feet by 42 feet equal to 2100 square feet, which is adequate space
for 60 children, aged three years to six years old.
Equipment:
Holy Family Preschool has a large variety of age appropriate equipment and materials
for the capacity of 20 preschool children.
Number of sinks and toilets:
There is no sink or bathroom connected to the preschool classroom. A short distance
down the hall is the boy’s bathroom, which has two sinks, two toilets and two urinals.
The girl’s bathroom has two sinks and four toilets. Other restrooms are located in the
school building by the gym and cafeteria.
Outdoor play area - location, fenced or not, water hazards:
Outdoor play will occur in a fenced grassy area behind the school building, which is
close to the school-age children’s playground. There is physical education equipment
the children can use when outside and activities will be planned. There is no installed
equipment for preschoolers to use at this time.
Documentation if a lead hazard risk assessment was required and the results:
A lead hazard risk assessment was required, and completed on March 13, 2014. No
lead hazards were located. There is deteriorated paint on the outside of the school
building high up on the west side gym wall that could not be tested due weather
conditions. It was recommended this paint be tested when weather conditions
permitted, or the area between the west gym wall and garage wall be inaccessible to
children. A letter was received from Katie Nimcheski, Principal, dated 8/21/14 that the
area outside the school building between the west face of the gym and the garage wall
is not accessible to children due to a physical barrier, fencing around the preschoolers
outdoor play area
.

Documentation of playground safety:
A playground safety inspection was not required as there is no installed equipment for
preschool age children.
