Become a Tenth Life Litter Mate
and Help Change Lives!
Tenth Life Cat Rescue works tirelessly to rescue, rehabilitate,
and carefully select permanent homes for cats and kittens in
St. Louis, MO. Many of our cats have significant physical and
emotional needs. Some of our cats are considered “seniors,”
and therefore deemed less desirable by many people; while
others have chronic medical conditions that make it very
difficult to find adoptive homes for them. They are the cats
that may spend their entire lives in Tenth Life’s care, and that’s fine by us! At the average shelter,
these cats would be euthanized to make space for “more adoptable” animals. But in Tenth Life’s
loving care, these kitties will live their lives out surrounded by genuine affection, lots of attention,
and excellent medical care.
However, caring for such special residents can be costly. That’s where you come in! Generous
supporters like you make it feasible for our rescue to care for these cats, which is why we are
introducing our Litter Mates program. For a donation of $15 (or more) per month, for the
commitment of one year or more, you can sponsor one of our special cats who are likely to be
lifelong residents of the organization. Your dollars will help provide the means for them to receive
necessary annual medical care or, in some cases, ongoing support for chronic conditions. Any
excess funding raised by the Litter Mates Club will be used to provide veterinary care for other
needy cats in Tenth Life’s care.
Sponsorship Levels:
$15-24/month
- Quarterly written updates on your selected sponsor-cat (via mail or email)
- Color photos of your sponsor-cat twice a year
$25-49/month (includes all of the above, plus)
- one Tenth Life t-shirt to wear proudly
$50 and more/month (includes all of the above, plus)
- one free ticket to one of our major fundraising events (Trivia Night, Carnival, Hissin’
Hustle, etc.)
** You can also choose to donate an entire year’s sponsorship at once, if you prefer (minimum
$180 donation).
Please take the time to read these cats’ stories. If one touches you more than others, agree to
sponsor that cat today, become a Litter Mate, and make a special kitty’s life better!
Jake
Jake is a kitty with FIV, which stands for Feline Immunodeficiency Virus. This
ominous-sounding condition is actually nothing to be alarmed about - it simply
compromises a cat’s immune system, making them more susceptible to common
illnesses like upper respiratory infections and ringworm, among others. FIVpositive cats are best in a home with no other cats, or with others who also have
the virus. However, they can successfully reside with non-positive cats, as long
as extra precautions are be taken to ensure all cats’ safety. Because so many of
our supporters already have cats in their home who do not have FIV, Jake is a
difficult kitty to find a forever home for. But his big, beautiful eyes beg for the
perfect human to come along. He is
incredibly playful and wants an active
buddy to share his home.
Due to an accident that happened while
Jake was living on the streets, he walks
with a limp in one of his rear legs. But we
love him even more because of his
uniqueness!
Buster & Thor
Buster and Thor are two very special boys. They have FIV and Feline Leukemia
(FeLV), two viruses that compromise their immune systems. Unfortunately, FeLV
is a progressive virus that ultimately shortens cats’ life expectancy. So these two
require very careful supervision to ensure that they remain healthy. They are, like
all Tenth Life cats, not allowed to go outdoors. They are in a home where there
are no other animals, including dogs, who could bring all sorts of diseases and
bacteria in from a simple walk around the neighborhood. Buster and Thor are
what we call “permanent fosters” of the organization; they will always be Tenth
Life cats, and their generous foster mom has agreed to keep them as long as
they are with us. They are good friends and are often found wrestling together,
and later, snuggling together.
So far, both boys feel well and show no signs of their conditions getting the better
of them. We keep our fingers crossed that they will beat the odds and live many
long, happy years in our care. You can choose to sponsor one or both!
Thank you to Jay Alan Babcock for the Litter Mates logo design!
Willa
It’s hard to believe that a kitten as cute as Willa would be difficult to place in an
adoptive home. What’s not evident in her photo, however, is that this little girl’s
rear legs are completely paralyzed. But the impairment does not slow her down –
she’s as sassy and playful as any kitten!
What makes Willa a more difficult kitty to place in an adoptive home is her
inability to use the litter box. Her kind and patient foster parents express, or
empty, her bladder and bowels manually each day. (It sounds more difficult and
unpleasant than it actually is.)
Willa was dumped in a bar parking lot, left to fend for
herself. Some kind employees at the bar took her in,
but were unsure how to get her the best possible care.
They reached out to a cat celebrity, named Willow, on
Facebook, which is how we learned of her. A kind
volunteer transported her to us, and now she receives
all the cuddles and protection she deserves. Her foster
parents outfit her with little leggings each day – they
protect her legs from getting sores due to being
dragged behind her. Willa’s foster dad even constructed
a simple ramp to help her get up and down from their
bed. She is truly loved while she awaits her forever
home.
Consider sponsoring Willa’s care today!
I want to be a Litter Mate!
Thank you for your interest in becoming a Tenth Life Litter Mate member. Ongoing
sponsorship of one of our more difficult-to-adopt kitties is invaluable to the organization and the
cats in our care. Veterinary bills are, by far, our highest expense, and your commitment to
helping one of the cats above is one of the greatest gifts you can give.
