In Music, we’ll be: • Responding to music by different composers • Composing our own expressionist music • Finding out about the development of musical instruments. SEAL: Our SEAL theme is New Beginnings Numeracy: In numeracy we will be looking at place value, addition, subtraction, shape, multiplication, division, fractions and problem solving. During our Literacy this half term we will be looking at nonchronological reports and their features. We will also be looking at correctly punctuating different sentence types. Science: Literacy: Our IPC topic this term will be “What Price Progress” In our Science lessons we will be finding out all bout the Earth, Sun and Moon. In History, we’ll be: • Finding out about important inventions and discoveries from the past • Finding out about famous people whose ideas caused social change • Finding out how our local area has changed and developed over time In Technology, we’ll be: Art, we’ll be: • Finding out about ‘futurism’ and creating a piece of art in the futurist style Finding out about ‘dadaism’ and creating a piece of art in the dadaist style In Society, we’ll be: • Debating what makes someone an entrepreneur • Finding out about the availability of technology in other countries around the world In International, we’ll be: RE • Finding out about sustainable ways of living Our RE theme is • Finding out about the types of technology we use in our daily lives • Finding out about technology that is being developed for the future • Evaluating existing technology against agreed criteria. • Designing and making our own future technology to PEmeet a need Striking •and fielding games Evaluating each other’s design Birds of Prey will be visiting our class on 21st September for our Literacy work. We will also be going to the cinema to see In to the Woods in November. More information will be given at a later date. If your child has received a letter about swimming, they need their swimming kit on Thursdays. If your child is not going swimming then full PE kits will be needed on Thursdays instead. PE will be on Friday afternoons, please ensure your child has a kit in school at all times. Reading books are changed daily; please read them regularly (at least 3 times a week) to earn book worms. Please watch out for more trips and visits. Uniform Welcome to Otter Class. SMCS Year 5 must wear full school uniform including a school tie and black school shoes. Year 5 Throughout our lessons we will cover working together in pairs, groups and people we do not normally work with. We will also look in to significant events such 9/11 Remembrance Day and international peace day Miss Hoyle, Mrs Margison and Mrs Turner. Homework Your child will be given a weekly learning log homework and a maths task which will be given on a Wednesday and returned by the following Tuesday. Snack Snack is 25p a day paid to Miss Hoyle. You can pay daily or weekly. Spellings will be given out on a Monday and they will be tested on these in school on a Friday. Please label all uniform, especially jumpers.
