Attendance Policy
1. Turning in someone else's ideas, opinions, theories, or work as
your own;
2. Unintentionally or inadvertently turning in someone else's ideas,
opinions, theories, or work as your own as the result of failing to
document sources both internally and in the Works Cited;
3. Copying words, ideas, or images from someone without giving
credit; Failing to put a quotation in quotations marks;
4. Giving incorrect information about the source of information,
quotations, or images;

If you must miss class, be aware you can turn in your work by the start
of the missed class period and still receive full credit. NO late work is
accepted. If you must be absent the day of an exam, please arrange to
make it up ahead of the exam date. Arriving late, leaving early, and
stepping out of the classroom affect your participation grade. Missing
class means you receive no participation points for that day regardless
of the reason for the absence. Please contact a classmate for
information that you missed and review the day’s presentation in
Canvas. Students who earn more than 4 absences may be
administratively dropped or awarded an F if it is past the date
of withdrawal. 3 tardies equal an absence. At the professor
discretion, excessive tardiness may be counted as an absence.

origin, gender, religion, age, or disability in the employment or the provision of services.
Participation
It is your responsibility to review the materials and homework for the upcoming
class period. The assigned readings and homework are meant to give you information
and practice on the topics that will be reviewed in class. Class time is for practice and
application of what you studied. If you have questions or do not understand
something, you need to notify me in advance so that I can help you. In class, I will be
looking for your active and knowledgeable participation. You must be able to participate in
an active and knowledgeable manner in order to receive full participation points each day.
We will make extensive use of paired and group practices, so your ability to participate is
essential. You are supposed to make mistakes so that you can see what areas you have
dominated and which you still need to work on absorbing. Please see the Participation
rubric for more details on grading.
iLrn houses your online workbook. Be sure to submit activities by the due date in order to
receive credit. Please be aware that iLrn does not currently have an app for mobile
devices and is not very mobile friendly at this time. The designers are working on this
issue.
You will go through a writing process to create two short essays in Spanish. The grade for
the work will be spread among the different drafts.
You will research specific information about the assigned country and present your
information in Spanish to the class. You must be able to present your information and
answer questions without relying on a script.
You will prepare short in-class responses to assigned readings. Pay careful attention to the
grading rubrics to know how you will be graded.
There will be a total of three exams. Due to the nature of language learning, all of the
exams will be cumulative in nature. This means you are still responsible for remembering
vocabulary, conjugations, and material from prior chapters for each exam.

Grades: Your grades will be kept up to date in Canvas. I usually have work graded by the
following class period, but reasonable turn-around is 2 weeks. All grading rubrics are
available for view alongside assignment information so that you will know the criteria used
to evaluate you.
Technology: Remember that while Canvas is mobile friendly, iLrn is not quite there yet.
You should plan to complete your online work from a computer.
NCTC restricts the use of all tobacco products including cigarettes, cigars, pipes, electronic
cigarettes, and smokeless tobacco on campus property. NCTC is aware that tobacco use
influences underage students, which cumulates unsightly tobacco litter and interferes with
assuring clean air for all who come to NCTC. NCTC recognizes the health hazards of
tobacco use and of exposure to second hand smoke. Information on a tobacco cessation
program is available for students, faculty, staff who wish to stop using tobacco products.
We would like to "thank you" for your help in making our campuses Tobacco-Free. For
questions or concerns, please contact the Office of Vice President of Student Services at
940-668-4240.
Extra Credit
In general, I do not offer extra credit, but if you spot a typo and let me know about it, I
will add 1 replacement point to your next exam. A replacement point means I will give
you back a point if you miss something on the exam, but you cannot earn more than
100%. If you miss 2 points on the exam and have a replacement point, I’ll give you back
1 point.
