Mark Anthony Sohl Vice President of University Affairs To: ASI Board of Directors From: Mark Anthony Sohl, Vice President of University Affairs Subject: September- October Board Report General Information: Office Hours: Monday 1:30 PM-2:30 PM Friday 11:30 PM-2:30 PM Or by appointment Contact Information: P (916) 278-4169 [email protected] News: Just like that, the month of September is finished. This year is coming along for the ASI Board of Directors. Within this last month we have gone through many drafts of our strategic priorities and have finalized them for the university. With our strategic priorities finished our board has a direction and works with absolute meaning to continue to serve our students. Within this last week, I was looking through the mission statement of the Associated Students Inc. I was reminded why we do what we do. “Associated Students, Incorporated provides: experiential education, leadership opportunities, and support services to our growing community. We achieve this though integrity, teamwork, commitment, passion, purposefulness, community support, excellence, service, diversity, and professionalism.” When I was campaigning, I made the promise to the students that I serve that I will not become one of those ASI members that gets elected, and then sits in his office all day. I feel like it’s important to know where you came from before you move forward to where you are going. I came from the residence halls, serving students in a different capacity than I do now. Moving forward, I am an agent of shared governance, advocating for students ability to access the education that they deserve. ASI started off as an organization, now it’s an 8 million dollar nonprofit corporation. For the two examples I’ve given, myself and ASI, the mission has never changed. Serving students. That’s what we do. That’s what I do. University Committees are filling up as planned. The help of the advertisement of the ability to serve on university committees has really enticed many students to become involved on campus. There has been a great interest in sustainability efforts, and parking. These two areas are important for the ASI Board of Directors, because these note the areas of interest for the university and the areas of improvement. Parking has always been an issue for Sacramento State Students. I understand that it is very difficult to 6000 J Street Sacramento, CA 95819-6011 (916) 278-6784 (916) 278-6278 Fax www.asi.csus.edu Mark Anthony Sohl Vice President of University Affairs find a parking space on campus during peak hours. The frustration of spending about 30 minutes looking for a parking spot is well noted. I hope we can continue to find solutions and techniques to monitoring traffic onto campus.
