1910 at age 51, spending the last 37 years of his life in San
Antonio. When he was in his early 70s, he wrote a memoir in
Yiddish about his life, education, family in Russia, his immigration
and settlement in Texas, and his decades in San Antonio, but this
magnificent document was never published in English until now. I'll
be discussing both Gurwitz's importance as a historical figure and
my own process to bring his work to publication.
