Category: X Action £ Discussion £ Information Date for Consideration: January 20, 2014 Objective: #1b: Guarantee a comprehensive and innovative K-‐12 program designed to meet students’ diverse needs and interests. #1d: Ensure the instruction of positive social and emotional skills in order to develop growth in all students. #4c: Establish positive and collaborative relations between internal and external stakeholders. Background: Since 1997, Mequon-‐Thiensville School District has collaborated with the School District of Elmbrook to provide services to low incidence disabled students pursuant to Section 66.03 of the Wisconsin statutes. Services under this agreement have been provided by the Elmbrook School District since 1983. Services under this agreement include Audiology and Assistive Listening Devices, Cognitive Disabilities, Autism, Deaf and Hard of Hearing, Leadership, Severe Emotional Behavioral Disabilities, Vision/Orientation and Mobility. Highlights: § § § Mequon-‐Thiensville School District has collaborated with the School District of Elmbrook since 1997. The agreement provides Mequon-‐Thiensville School District with an option for educating low incidence disabled students Low incidence disability means -‐ -‐ a visual or hearing impairment, or simultaneous visual and hearing impairments; a significant cognitive impairment; or any impairment for which a small number of personnel with highly specialized skills and knowledge are needed in order for children with that impairment to receive early intervention services or a free appropriate public education. Strengths § Provides an out-‐of-‐district option that meets the needs of low incident students with special needs Challenges/Needs Improvement Recommendation: It is recommended that the Mequon-‐Thiensville School District Board of Education approve the 66.03 Contractual Agreement with the School District of Elmbrook for the 2014-‐15 school year, which states we have no students scheduled for this program for 2014-‐2015. We would like the Mequon-‐Thiensville School District Board to sign this contract with the understanding we may have a student placement need at a later date.
