A Day Late, Many Dollars Short
We all wish we could predict the future…but we cannot. Sickness, Death,
Marriage, Children and Jobs are things we wish were predictable but are not.
Life can change on a dime and when those changes occur, it may be too late
to act. Take the following true story (no names are used to protect the
individual) for example.
A 36 year old man, in perfect health, is married with 3 children. He goes to play
soccer with his son, he falls, gets kicked in the head, and begins to get severe
headaches. He goes to the doctor and finds out that he has a brain tumor. It is
not only large but it has tentacles that weave throughout the brain. He and his
wife have been talking about getting more life insurance (he has $15,000
through his job) and now, he most likely will be UNINSURABLE. Once life
happens, you may not be able to get the insurance that you wanted because
of illness, cancer, or health. These are all factors that life insurance takes into
account. If you wait too long, your insurability may change in an instant.
Is that worth the risk? I know that discussing life insurance can be difficult and
you may feel that you’re too young, too old, or you may think that your job
provides enough life insurance. All these factors are why it is time to take
another look. Life changes too quickly to WAIT to protect your love ones. How
do you plan on protecting your family if you are no longer around?
Don’t be a Day Late and Leave your Family Many Dollars Short!

Month
March 2016
“Working to Form a More Perfect
Union: Honoring Women in
Public Service and Government”
The National Women’s History Month
theme for 2016 honors women who
have shaped America’s history and
its future through their public service
and government leadership.
Collectively they have dramatically
influenced our public policy and the
building of viable institutions and
organizations. Each of these public
leaders succeeded against great
odds. The diversity of their
experiences demonstrates both the
challenges and the opportunities
women in public service have faced.
Their ability to use the art of
collaboration to create inclusive
solutions and non-partisan policies,
as well as their skill and
determination, serve to inspire future
generations. The tenacity of each
Honoree underlines the fact that
women from all cultural backgrounds
in all levels of public service and
government are essential in the
continuing work of forming a more
perfect union.

Bake Someone Happy
Bunny Cake
Cake Ingredients:
4 cups plus 2 Tbsp cake flour (not self-rising)
2 tsp baking powder
1-1/2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp table salt
1 cup unsalted butter (2 sticks)
2 cups sugar
2 tsp pure vanilla extract
4 large eggs, at room temperature
2 cups buttermilk, well shaken
Frosting Ingredients:
1/2 cup butter, softened (1 stick)
1 cup packed dark brown sugar
1/3 cup heavy cream, plus more as necessary
1 Tbsp pure vanilla extract
1- 16oz. box confectioner's sugar
2 cups finely chopped black walnuts, for garnish (optional)
Cake Instructions:
Preheat oven to 350ºF.
Butter two 9-inch round cake pans and line with circles of parchment paper, then butter parchment.
(Alternately, you can use a cooking spray to speed this process up.)
Sift together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a medium bowl.
In a large mixing bowl, beat butter and sugar with an electric mixer at medium speed until pale and fluffy,
then beat in vanilla.
Add eggs one at a time, beating well and scraping down the bowl after each addition.
At low speed, beat in buttermilk until just combined (mixture will look curdled).
Add flour mixture in three batches, mixing until each addition is just incorporated.
Spread batter evenly in cake pan, then rap pan on counter several times to eliminate any air bubbles. (I like to
drop mine a few times from two inches up, making a great big noisy fuss.)
Bake until golden brown and a wooden pick inserted in center of cake comes out clean, 35-40 minutes.
Cool in pan on rack 10 minutes, then run a knife around the edge of the pan.
Invert onto rack and discard parchment, then cool completely, about 1 hour.
Make frosting while cake is baking.
Frosting Instructions:
Melt butter in saucepan.
Add brown sugar and cream.
Cook over medium-low heat for about 2 minutes, until sugar is dissolved.
Remove from heat and add vanilla.
Transfer to a large bowl.
Wait to add sugar until the cake is cool.
Using a handheld electric mixer, beat in confectioner's sugar until smooth.
If frosting is too thick, add 1 Tbsp of heavy cream at a time until consistency is right.
One box cake mix and ready-made icing can be substituted if you do not care to bake
from scratch. Still have all the fun of decorating!
Decorate!
Cut one layer as shown, leave the other whole.
Tint 1/4 cup coconut pink by tossing with red food coloring.
Arrange cake, using frosting to hold pieces together.
Frost entire cake. Sprinkle with coconut and decorate with
jelly beans, gumdrops, black shoestring licorice.
Use your imagination!
Take a photo of your own Bunny Cake and share on our Facebook page!
Celebrations and
Traditions
St Patrick's Day, while not a legal holiday in the
United States, is nonetheless widely
recognized and observed throughout the
country as a celebration of Irish and Irish
American culture. Celebrations include
prominent displays of the color green, eating
and drinking, religious observances, and
numerous parades. The holiday has been
celebrated on the North American continent
since the late eighteenth century.
Patrick was a 5th-century Romano-British
Christian missionary and bishop in Ireland.
Tradition holds that he died on 17 March and
was buried at Downpatrick. Over the following
centuries, many legends grew up around
Patrick and he became Ireland's foremost
saint.
In the United States, the Easter Egg Roll is an
annual event, and is held on the White House
lawn each Easter Monday for children and their
parents.
The Egg Roll itself is a race, where children
push an egg through the grass with a
long-handled spoon. Surrounding events
include appearances by White House
personalities in Easter Bunny costumes,
speeches and book-reading by Cabinet
secretaries, and exhibits of
artistically-decorated eggs.
According to tradition, Dolley Madison, the
wife of President James Madison, began the
event in 1814 and hundreds of children brought
their decorated eggs to join in games. The
original site was on the grounds of the United
States Capitol, but in 1877 a new lawn was
planted and the gardeners cancelled the event.
Congress then passed a law making it illegal to
use the grounds as a children's playground. At
the request of a number of children, including
his own, then President Rutherford B. Hayes
and his wife Lucy Hayes brought the event to
the White House lawns. In 1953 Mamie
Eisenhower proposed that the event be
opened to children, and in 1954 the event was
open to blacks.
On April 13, 2009, the Obamas hosted their
first White House Easter egg roll. The theme
“Let’s go play” was meant to encourage young
people to lead healthy, active lives. Celebrities
such as J.K. Rowling, the cast of Glee and
Justin Bieber attended the egg roll in 2010. It
was featured in the 2007 film National
Treasure: Book of Secrets.

Benefits of a Home Humidifier
Winter has finally arrived to the Cincinnati area. During the winter months, we experience more dry skin and chapped lips.
One way to treat these conditions is with a home humidifier. Humidifiers are generally more necessary during the winter
months, when atmospheric humidity levels are low and heating systems dry air out. Humidifiers add much-needed
moisture to the air and to skin. Use units near beds in the house and keep doors closed in rooms where a humidifier is in
use. Just as humidifiers treat dry winter skin, it soothes skin dryness and itchiness. Low humidity levels exacerbate
symptoms of eczema. Psoriasis, thyroid disorders, topical medications for acne, and cosmetic products can also cause dry
skin that can be eased with a humidifier.
Humidifiers also soothe irritation or itchiness in the nose, nasal passages, sinuses, mouth, throat and eyes. They help
prevent nose bleeds in those prone to them when their nose is dried out. Hence, humidifiers benefit people with a cold, flu
or allergies.
Children and adults with asthma often find humidifiers help their breathing, especially when the condition is compounded
by a respiratory infection. Those with asthma should check with their doctor before using a humidifier, though. Humidifiers
must be kept clean to keep the air free of asthma irritants. Humidity levels kept too high can also make things worse,
prompting the growth of mold or mildew.
Besides health benefits to people, humidifiers offer benefits to your home. They reduce static electricity in the air, and they
can help preserve a room's appearance by slowing the peeling of wallpaper and preventing cracks in paint and furniture.
JUST FOR GIGGLES
Daylight Savings Time
Twice a year, we change the clocks for daylight-savings time. And
twice a year, my normally punctual assistant arrives late to work the
Monday after we do so.
I finally had to find out why. "Do you have a problem remembering
to spring forward or fall back?" I asked.
"Oh, no," she said, pouring herself a cup of coffee.
"What gets to me is staying up until 2 a.m. to change my clock."
Q. Why is a bunny the luckiest animal in the world?
A. Because it has four rabbit’s feet!
If you have a joke or riddle, a good idea, suggestion, advice or a recipe you would like to share, please
