Year 7 Word Processing and Poetry

Year 7 Word Processing and Poetry
Use your newly developed word processing presentation skills to produce a
portfolio of a few poems. You don’t have to type in the words for each poem
as these have already been entered into word documents without the
formatting. However, you should organise the layout as shown in the printed
versions of the poems that are on the next page.
Poem 1 - Ping-pong by Gareth Owen
You can use tabs to help shape your poem – make it look like a ping pong
match!
Poem 2 – I like That Stuff by Adrian Mitchell
For this poem, we’ve left out the third line of every stanza (except the first).
Find one word to fill each gap. You can use the thesaurus to help find out
meanings of words and to select the best word. Use the spell check to check
your spelling.
Poem 3 –Macavity by T. S. Eliot
This is a long poem for all those fast typists! Some of the words have been
dropped out of the text. From the list at the end, find one word for each gap.
No words may be used twice. Remember to use the thesaurus and spell
checker to help choose the right words!
Poem 4 – your choice
You can present your favourite poem or write your own.
Criteria - how your portfolio will be marked
1. Your portfolio should have a title page with all the appropriate
information.
2. Each poem is to be on a separate page.
3. Each poem needs the title and the author’s name (where should you
put it?)
4. Your portfolio should be stored in your file space and printed (in
colour if required).
5. For each poem, you should think about:
Lay out of poem on the page
Font type and size of title and poem itself
Spelling
Keeping the original punctuation as the author intended
Using images
Page numbering
Should the fonts be the same for all poems or should you select a
font for the poem?
Should you use colour for the text or images?
