CITY OF SAFETY HARBOR PUBLIC RELATIONS PUBLIC RELATIONS UPGRADE OF “SAFETY HARBOR IN SIGHT” CITY 15 TV A major accomplishment of 2005 included the upgrade of our TV station, including a playback system, video bulletin board, and non linear editing suite & soundproofed control room, providing enhanced programming on City 15 government access channel to Safety Harbor residents. Upgrade included ENG field equipment (camera, tripod, lighting kit and two lavaliere mics) to enable capturing of special City programs, events or highlights to be developed into City programs, PSA’s and/or video highlights. The NEW and enhanced Video Bulletin Board went “live” in May; the entire upgraded system was completed in August. CITY PUBLIC RELATIONS INCLUDE: Press Releases and Media Communications; Press Conferences & Live Media Coverage Requests; City 15 TV Station Management, Videographer, Editor, and TV Show Producer tasks; Creation and Coordination of Safety Awareness and Education Programs for Schools, Library Patrons, Children & Other Residents; Award Application and Thesis Writing; Photography; Graphic Design; Creation & Coordination of Special Educational Programs; Sponsorship support and Volunteer recruitment for Appreciation events and PC Schools or other Community Outreach Programs. AWARDS RECEIVED, FINALIST RECOGNITION & NOMINATIONS: • PIO received Community Service Award from P/C Sheriff’s Office and Distinguished Service Award from Safety Harbor Fire Rescue. • FLC Cities of Excellence Award submitted; City of Safety Harbor 1 of 5 City finalists. • FLC City Innovations Showcase Awards, twelve entries. • Submitted award application for City Livability Award. • Surveys and article highlights submitted to Florida League of Cities, CityScape. • Designed and published advs including: Photographic Journey, Tampa Bay News; Chamber Directory and FLC Conference Publications, FLC Quality Cities Mentoring and Florida Government Week Program Initiatives. OTHER NON-TV RELATED PR & PIO ACCOMPLISHMENTS: • Achieved sixty-eight media hits with issuance of thirty-nine press releases, plus leads to expedite twenty published interviews by local news reporters. • Four events covered live by local TV channels (Fox 13 & Good Morning Tampa Bay, Tampa Bay’s 10, Pinellas Channel 18) highlighting Safety Walk to SH Elementary on International Walk to School for Safety Day; Mayors’ Breakfast with special guest Mayor Moran, and recovery assistance to Sister City Ocean Springs, MS; Humane Society Donation to SH Fire Rescue; Pinellas County Highlight for CityScape. PUBLIC RELATIONS 2005 ACCOMPLISHMENTS & STATISTICS: The following stats reflect the magnitude of projects and work completed during this year relating to TV responsibilities: • Filmed thirty-eight events/programs. • Created five shows and three PSA’s including: Teacher Appreciation Program & DVD, Holiday Happenings in Safety Harbor, Code Enforcement Infomercial, Leisure Services Creates Memories, City Commission Open, and PSA’s on Harbour Pointe, San Gennaro Festa, Library POSH Performance, and Halloween. • Encodes for Commission Meetings set up from August 2005 through April 2006. • Created approx 200 Video Bulletin Screens, with avg sixty pages and sixty transitions running continuously at any given time. • Partnered with local schools to recruit volunteers for TV Station Practicum Opportunities. In April and again in October a part-time seasonal high school student joined TV Station team. • Recruited third party program resources to encode for City 15 TV broadcast (NASA, US Army, SWFWMD, Pinellas County Channel 18, FEMA, FLC, Governor’s Mentoring Initiative, Pinellas County Schools, Safety Organizations and other resources). • Over ninety encodes completed May through Dec 2005 for TV programming. • Conducted research and a comparative study with government access TV stations on Chamber audio equipment resources. • Reviewed Request to Air Forms received and worked with City Attorney’s Office to create two new channel forms. OTHER NON-TV RELATED PR & PIO ACCOMPLISHMENTS ( cont’d): Conducted Press Conference and media campaign for Humane Society’s Donation of Animal Oxygen Masks to City, with Safety Harbor being the first Fire Rescue Dept in Pinellas County to have as emergency equipment on their ALS engines. Result, more donations were received by Humane Society enabling all Pinellas County Fire Rescue Departments to be able to receive animal masks. SPECIAL EVENTS & AWARENESS CAMPAIGNS: Conducted and coordinated eight events/campaigns/programs including: • Teachers’ Appreciation Breakfast • Mayors’ Breakfast Fundraiser • Florida Government Week Show & Zoo Safari Tour • Years of Service Reception • 4 Safety Campaigns in 2005 on Drowning Prevention, Back-to-School Safety, Safety Walk to School and Fire Prevention. Florida Government Week educated residents of all ages on the important role government plays in our lives, and included extensive script writing, prop making by creative team of four, and a puppetshow performance by City Officials, Library Director & City Clerk. Each awareness campaign involved a major special event and all or some of the following: school talks; library storytimes; City Official, PC Schools and safety representative guest speakers and exhibitors; direct mail to residents and for schools; creation and dissemination of graphics and PR/adv support materials; special TV programming and website information with links. For Awareness Campaigns teamed with Safety Harbor Fire Rescue, PC Sheriff’s Office, Library, local schools, and National Safe Kids Campaign/FL Suncoast Coalition led by All Children’s Hospital. Support also received from SH Chamber of Commerce, Leisure Services, Kiwanis, VFW & PTA Association for Third Friday and/or Safety Walk events. Fundraising and Table Sponsorship Recruitment for Teachers’ Appreciation Breakfast and Mayors’ Breakfast Fundraiser events, resulted in $7,530 net proceeds raised through donations, sponsorships and ticket sales plus $7,200 recruited in prize raffle items from over sixty area businesses and organizations. ESPECIALLY FOR KIDS! • Expanded annual FL Government Week program created by 4 person team (PIO & Library) to include new this year a Zoo Safari Tour with special exhibits, a sample voting booth, fun artwork and décor, a one-of-a-kind script, plus giveaways, refreshments and show cast of characters that includes City Officials, Department Directors and puppets. City Departments and community service agencies provided exhibits, literature, and educational giveaways. • 2nd Annual Fire Prevention Poster Contest expanded to two schools with over 300 colorful poster creations received from kindergarten through third grades. First and second place student winners and one special recognition award were given to recognize the top entries each picturing a hand drawn fire prevention rule. Gold, silver & bronze medals were handed out as congratulatory announcements were made by City Commission, Fire Marshal Brock & PIO in awards ceremony at Fire Station Open House. • Taught six classes at two elementary schools on Great American Teach-In Day. • Volunteer mentor/tutor at local elementary school; plus recruited volunteers for mentor/tutor and Great American Teach-In programs and liaison with PC Schools Corporate Community Outreach program. • Team leader for City’s Team for BBBS Bowla-thon Fundraiser and recruited fundraiser participants and pledges. • Tours conducted for Scout Troops of City Hall, TV Control Room and Public Relation Operations. 1ST WALK TO SCHOOL FOR SAFETY: Partnered with Safety Harbor Elementary School to coordinate first Safety Walk to Safety Harbor Elementary on October 5th International Walk to School Day. Teamed up with Principal Ramker, PTA President, Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, Fire Rescue & Leisure Services Departments. Pre-event advertisements to recruit walk participants were issued to parents, news media & aired on school news show. Recruited volunteer and refreshment support from Kiwanis, VFW, Safety Harbor Chamber of Commerce, area businesses. SAFETY COMMUNICATIONS & OTHER 2005 SPECIAL SERVICES: • Teamed up with Fire Marshal Brock and Pinellas County for special new hurricane preparedness countywide custom mailing to mobile home residents. • Direct mail to home owner/condo associations on hurricane prevention and other key safety TV program air times and dates including back-to-school safety, drowning and fire prevention. • Created Extensive TV Video Bulletin Board Screens with Hurricane Preparedness/Emergency Information. • Participated on the Web Redesign Committee. • Press Release postings and key safety links on City website. • Designed and produced print graphics including posters, programs, flyers, City Annual Report & graphic support for all eight awareness campaigns and special programs. • Teamed with other departments to produce Safety Traffic Signage posted during the first week of school at challenging locations in the City of Safety Harbor. • Liaison with Safety Kids Suncoast Coalition and All Children’s Hospital representatives to expand reach of awareness safety campaigns.
