Big Idea:​ In the second half of the 20th century, the globe became split into two major factions: Communist nations and
their supporters, and nations that supported free trade and various political ideologies. Thee conflict that emerged from
the tensions surrounding these factions is not characterized by direct war between the two Superpowers at the center,
but several indirect conflicts around the globe. More importantly, the Cold War can be characterized as a war of idea
and information, with each side racing to outdo the other.
