Apply for an Internship with The Great Wall of Oakland! The Great Wall of Oakland accepts application on a rolling basis for unpaid internships in Arts Administration and Marketing / PR. The Great Wall of Oakland is a small, Oakland­based arts nonprofit. Our mission is to educate, enliven and enrich urban communities with fresh and provocative art, to draw audiences to these spaces, and to provide talented artists worldwide a prominent place to showcase their work. Since 2006, every Friday during Oakland Art Murmur, the Great Wall of Oakland has illuminated the Uptown District with a 100'x100' projection installation of cutting­edge motion art from around the world. Thousands of Bay Area art fans descend upon the area to check out this one­of­a­kind site. Since becoming a 501(c)3 nonprofit in 2013, The Great Wall has big plans ­ be a part of our next phase while learning the day­to­day of running a nonprofit arts organization! The goal of our internship program is to give interns training within a small non­profit arts organization and real­world experience bringing art installations and events from idea to production. This internship is geared toward students with interest in new media, film, art and design, art history, or museology. Interns should possess strong communication skills and have basic computer skills (Google Docs, WordPress, Social Media preferred). Depending on the interests and learning objectives of the successful applicant, the role may include experience in event organization and production, marketing and PR, grant writing, and general operations of a small arts nonprofit. If desired, we will work with a student’s department to enable course credit for the internship. Internships are unpaid, will require 5­12 hours of work per week. Some evenings will be required for meetings and First Friday / event attendance. Interns may work on­site from our office, located near the 19th Street BART station.
