Preteen Boat Ride: This activity for preteens and their families will take place on Friday, Oct. 10, on the Texas Department of Transportation Ferry between Galveston Island and Port Bolivar. This free ferry connects two segments of State Highway 87. We’ll meet at the Galveston Island landing point at 2:30 p.m. (there is free parking at this location) and then take the approximately 18-minute, 2.7-mile trip to Port Bolivar and remain on the ferry for the return trip. While onboard, visitors will see one of the busiest waterways in the world. Additionally, riders often see dolphins swimming with the boat, and they can feed the seagulls that generally accompany the craft. Snacks will be provided. Teen Fellowships: All teens are invited to the Clipper Room for fellowship from 9-9:45 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 10, and Monday, Oct. 13. 3. Singles’ Fellowship: All singles are invited to the Spinnaker Room for fellowship from 99:45 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 10. 4. Ordained and Department Head Mixer: This activity is scheduled to take place after the Sabbath service, Oct. 11, from 5-6:30 p.m. Location and additional details to be announced. 5. Schlitterbahn Waterpark: Join us at Schlitterbahn Waterpark on Family Day on Sunday, Oct. 12, if you’re looking for plenty of fun and action. This is the last day of Schlitterbahn’s outdoor season. The park will be open as you head over after services (it opens at 10 a.m. that day) and will close at 6 p.m. Parking is free. You can bring your own food and drink with you into the park (alcohol, glassware, knives excluded), although food and drink items are available for purchase at the park as well. The cost is $36 for those aged 12-54 and $30 for those aged 3-11 or 55 and older. Inner tubes and life vests are provided free of charge. Day lockers are available for rent if needed. These discounted rates are available only to those who prepay by Sept. 15. Moody Gardens: Everyone is invited to enjoy Moody Gardens on Galveston Island, one of Texas’ premier attractions, on Family Day, Sunday, Oct. 12. We have secured a special educational rate of $35 per person (all ages) for Moody Gardens’ “Day Pass” on this day, but you must prepay if you want to take advantage of the special rate. This is approximately $25 off the regular “Day Pass” rate. The “Day Pass” includes admission to the Aquarium Pyramid, Rainforest Pyramid, MG 3D Theater, 4D Special FX Theater, Ridefilm Theater (motion simulation), Discovery Museum and the Colonel Paddlewheel Boat. The only paddlewheel boat ride of the day begins at 1 p.m., so you’ll need to arrive by 12:45 p.m. for this attraction. For more information concerning the attractions, go to moodygardens.com. Senior Citizens’ Luncheon: A special luncheon is being planned for our much-appreciated senior citizens, aged 65 and over, and their spouses on Monday, Oct. 13. Seniors and their spouses are free. Family Day at the Pleasure Pier: Come join us, one and all, on Monday, Oct. 13, for an afternoon and evening of family fun at the Pleasure Pier located on Galveston Island at 25th and Seawall Boulevard (2501 Seawall Boulevard). Pleasure Pier is one of the few spots in the world that has this many rides over the water! You’ll be flying over guests on the Pier, soaring over the Gulf of Mexico, and anticipating your next ride! The Pleasure Pier features a variety of rides (from a roller coaster and high-flying swings to “kiddie” rides) and games. Whether you’re hungry for funnel cakes, turkey legs, pizza, hamburgers or hot dogs, you’ll find just what you’re looking for on the Pleasure Pier. You can also cool your thirst with sodas, beer, margaritas, wine, ICEEs and more. The pier opens on Monday at 11 a.m. and closes at 8 p.m., so brethren will have at least seven hours after services that day to enjoy the fun. A discounted fee of $15 per person includes unlimited rides. Golf Tournament: A scramble golf tournament is planned for Tuesday, Oct. 14, at Moody Gardens Golf Course (1700 Sydnor Lane, Galveston, TX 77554; 409-683-4653). A shotgun start will begin promptly at 1 p.m. The cost is $55 per golfer, payable to Lisa Ryan-Powell on the day of the tournament (please bring cash or a check). If you need rentals, please contact the golf course directly. There will be various prizes—from longest drive to closest to the pin.
