A registered Suzuki Method teacher and a member of the Cobb Symphony Orchestra, she has performed with the Atlanta Community Orchestra, Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, and Chattanooga Symphony Orchestra. Marigold Edwards is an educator from London, specializing in personal leadership. She motivates and inspires class participants to excel. Marigold received a Master’s degree from Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge, UK.; she has traveled the world helping children and adults become their best selves. Joe Falligan was trained as a medical illustrator and he is dedicated to working with young people and teaching them to enjoy and learn from their own creativity in the visual arts, especially comic book art. Falligan works as a cartoon illustrator. Joi Jamison, a native of Virginia, is a professional dancer and choreographer with a dance resume that began in 1999 – choreographing talent shows, cheer camps, pageants, workshops, and award shows. Since 2008, she has taught youth and adult dance classes at various dance studios throughout Metro Atlanta and has worked closely with the CAC on various enrichment programs. Neil Pollock has played professionally, touring extensively throughout the United States and Europe. Pollock teaches beginning, intermediate, and advanced piano, organ, and guitar for children and adults. Tom Stavran is a dulcimer player who has played in area churches as well as at the Sheep to Shawl weekend at the Atlanta Historical Society. Tom focuses on traditional folk songs as well as gospel hymns. Dr. Lisa Street has taught Art History at the University of West Georgia, Oglethorpe University, and Emory University, for more than 25 years. She views art movements holistically, noting how architecture, music, dance and social movements are all interconnected. Jade Weatherington has worked as an educator for 8 years and has a license in Family Education. Jade has taught art camps that allow children to freely express themselves while learning about the great American artists. Keith Wilson earned his degree in Landscape Design and Fine Arts from Atlanta College of Art. Keith currently works as a Deputy Sheriff for the Fulton County Sheriff's Office and operates Lamdan Designs, an artistic services company that creates custom art products. ART CLASSES & WORKSHOPS Intro to Illustration & Storyboard Art Joseph Falligan, Instructor Teens & adults Tuesdays, 6 – 8 pm Session 1: May 5 – June 23 Session 2: July 7 – August 25 Design for Comics, Graphic Novels, Medical Illustrations & more! Learn to draw, ink or color comic books or graphic novels, films or animated features from a script and create visual representations of a story. Learn to draw for medical textbooks, advertisements, and exhibits, using traditional and computer generated images. (Material list provided) $95 for an 8 class session $60 for 4 classes in a session Classical Drawing Lessons Keith Wilson, Instructor For ages 7 -14 Thursdays or Saturdays 10:30am – 12pm There is a minimum of 5 students required for each class, so register early. Session 1: Thursdays, July 23 – August 27 Saturdays, July 25 – August 29 This course will introduce drawing fundamentals and advanced drawing techniques using a selection of graphite and charcoal pencils with supporting tools. Students will utilize personal photo references, stock photo references and life displays. Explore art techniques of the “Classical Art Masters” that will require problem solving abilities, patience, focus, listening and comprehension skills. During the six week sessions, a few artistically based careers will be profiled giving exposure to lucrative future possibilities within the art world. $85 for 6 classes (includes materials) The Arts of Paris in the 1870’s Lisa Street, Lecturer Sunday, June 7, 1pm Despite the violent transition from the Second Empire to the Third Republic, Paris was transformed in the 1870’s with the construction of huge public gardens designed by Adolphe Alphand – register to see the plans and photographs of these gardens. Explore the prints of botanical illustrators, such as Riocreux and Faguet, who took advantage of new scientific collections of flowers to make their studies. The lecture will look at sculpture by Falguière, Mercié, and Rodin, who participated in making the hundreds of statues commissioned for the new parks. Also, the lecture will examine the paintings of Impressionists: Morisot, Pissarro, Renoir, and Monet, who went outside to paint the abundance of flora in and around Paris in this decade of contrasts. $10 per person Move-it Monday Master Dance Class Ms. Joi Jamison, Instructor Ages 5 -12 years old; male & female students Monday, June 15, 9am – 1pm NOTE: Non-refrigerated lunch must be provided by parents. This class will include learning various styles of dance such as jazz, modern, lyrical, hip hop, etc. and end with a final mini performance. It will be open to students (5-11 years old)...female and male. An interactive lesson will also be included. Come experience the art of dance and creative expression with dance teaching artist - Ms. Joi. You do not want to miss this fun, exciting and educational day of dance. Register today! $45 per child Family Fun with Vision Boards Marigold Edwards, Instructor 7 years old & up Thursdays, 5 – 7 pm Session 1: May 7 & 14 Session 2: June 4 & 11 Session 3: July 2 & 9 Session 4: August 6 & 13 Two fun and interactive classes for families with the aim of creating an artistic representation of personal/ family goals and career/educational aspirations by creating a vision board. By the end of the two classes, participants will have a piece of art that they have created, a crystal clear picture of what they would like to accomplish and a solid plan for its accomplishment. (Materials provided) $30 per session (2 classes) Kids Art – An Exploration of American Artists Jade Weatherington, Instructor 6 – 12 years old Fridays, 3:30 – 5:30 pm; Ongoing monthly classes Starting Dates: May 8, June 5, August 7 NOTE: No class during the month of July Students will learn about American artists and recreate their own versions of the famous works. Students will use a variety of materials, such as watercolor, acrylics, pastels, and other nontraditional materials like plastic forks & Q-tips. $80 per month (4 classes) (Materials provided) MUSIC CLASSES Private Piano & Guitar Lessons Neil Pollock, Instructor Ages 8 through adult Ongoing monthly classes Fridays, first class begins May 8 Time-slot is arranged with instructor; please call the Arts Council for more information. Private piano and guitar lessons include technique, music reading, ear training, music theory, practice & performance. Lessons are offered to beginners and others who are continuing their piano and guitar training. All technique levels are welcome. $100 per month; 4 weekly 30-minute lessons $150 per month; 4 weekly 45-minute lessons Appalachian Mountain Dulcimer Group Lessons Tom Stavran, Instructor All ages welcomed Saturdays, 10 am; May 23, June 20, Aug. 15 Learn the basics of the mountain dulcimer, tunings, proper finger techniques, and strumming traditional folk songs. $5 per lesson Violin / Cello Lessons Eleanor Bennett, Instructor All ages welcomed Ongoing monthly classes Mondays, 1–5 pm, first class May 4 Wednesdays, 1–8 pm; first class May 6 Thursdays, 1 – 8 pm; first class May 7 Time-slot is arranged with instructor; please call the Arts Council for more information. Private lessons will include technique, music reading, music theory, practice and performance. Students perform twice a year in recitals at the CAC and at various events in the community.
