Discuss the Words that Mean Many sheet.
In our number system, we group numbers to make counting and
communicating about numbers easier.
Leonardo of Pisa (better known as Fibonacci) was the first person in
Western Europe to write a book that advocated the use of the HinduArabic number system that we use today. In the first chapter in his book
he writes “There are nine figures of the Indians 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9. With
these nine figures and the symbol 0 which in Arabic is called zephirum,
any number can be written.”
