Dear Parents and Teachers, Hate to bombard everyone with eblasts

Dear Parents and Teachers,
Hate to bombard everyone with eblasts, but better that than parking tickets. I’m told Fatima consulted with the
Lafayette Police Department last year and they provided the below list of regulations that apply. We did sent
this to everyone then, but I understand it may not still be in your car. Hopefully, this will help with where you
can’t park. Wish I could help more with where you can park.

There are No Parking signs posted on both sides of the boulevard approximately 50ft ( (UL side ) and 75ft
(
Fatima side ) from Johnston St. and a fire hydrant at the beginning of the grass median near Johnston St.
According to Parking Laws / LCG Ordinances, the below listed parking violations appear to be the most
applicable in regards to parents parking on 100 Ronald Blvd or OakView Blvd and then walking their
children to school.
Sec 86-125
Wrong Direction
(front of vehicle must face the direction of the flow of traffic)
Sec 86-125
18” from Curb
(passenger side tires must be within 18 inches of the curb)
Sec 86-132
No Stopping / Parking within 3 ft of driveway ( the front or back bumpers of vehicle must not be
within 3 ft of a private driveway)
Sec 86-132A
No Stopping / Parking Anytime
(signs with arrows pointing towards Johnston St.)
Sec 86-132(16)
No Parking on Grass Median
Sec 86-141
No Parking within 15 ft of Fire Hydrant (15ft radius)
It is not just the responsibility of enforcing the violations of laws / ordinances that we have as Police
Officers,
but in a case like this, to also provide education with the hopes of avoiding violations. I can assure you
that Fatima is not the only school that generates parking complaints at the beginning of each school
year. It has been my experience that, when complaints are received regarding parking violations, Officers
are commonly advised to take a Zero Tolerance approach and verbal warnings are not allowed per direct
orders from his/her Chain of Command. Please be cognizant of these laws so that, hopefully, there will be
no violations and of course no enforcement action necessary.
