Archive Your Course
An archiv e is a complete backup of y our course. It includes the students, all their work, all discussions, course statistics,
grades, etc. These archiv es are meant to be used as backups f or y our course, not f or transf erring y our content f rom one
container to another. Use the Course Copy tool to copy f rom one container to another.
When y ou archiv e y our course, Blackboard creates a zip f ile of ev ery thing in y our container. Af ter this zip f ile is created, be
sure to sav e it to y our hard driv e so y ou know it's in a secure place.
Control Panel > Packages and Utilities > Archive Course
To begin archiv ing y our course, go to the Control Panel , click Packages and Utilities to expand that section, then click
Export/Archiv e Course .

There are only two options in the Export/Archiv e Manager. You want to archiv e y our course, so click the Archiv e button to
create y our archiv e.

Check Include Grade Center, then Submit
Your course is already selected f or y ou. You hav e the option to "Include Grade Center History ." Since y ou are creating a
backup of y our course, y ou will most likely want to include the grades, so check this box. You can ignore Section 2. Course
Files. We do not enf orce limits. Then click Submit.
Check your email
You will see a message telling y ou the archiv e has been put in the queue. You need to check y our email to f ind out when the
archiv e is complete.
Important - Still more to do!
Once y ou receiv e the email telling y our archiv e is complete, go back into the Control Panel, click Packages and Utilities
to expand it , and click on Export/Archiv e Course .

Save the archive zip file to your hard drive.
You will now see the zip f ile that contains y our Blackboard course backup. Click the file name link to sav e it to y our
computer.

When the File Download window opens, choose to Sav e the f ile.
Save As
In this step, choose the directory and f ile name to sav e it to. You can create a directory f or y our archiv e f iles if y ou want to
and know how to do that, or y ou can just sav e it to y our My Documents f older with the def ault f ile name. It's important that
y ou not change the f ile ty pe or change the .zip at the end of the f ile name. When y ou are ready , click Sav e .

When the download is complete, click the Close button to f inish. You now hav e a complete backup of y our course sav ed
to y our computer f or saf ekeeping and hav e completed this process.
Special Instructions For Mac users
If y ou are using the Saf ari browser, it may automatically unzip this f ile. You do not want it unzipped because it will be unusable
that way , so y ou need to change a setting in Saf ari. Go to Saf ari > Pref erences > General and uncheck "Open saf e f iles
af ter downloading".
