President’s Prose!
The weather is southeast Texas is absolutely gorgeous as I
write this!
Hold on! This IS Texas! It can change in just a minute!
Seriously, the monumental rains of August have put a
damper on Monument Constructor’s schedule in replacing the
roof on Shepherd’s Inn. We really could use a two week
stretch of no rain.
Kairos Ministry will be in next week gearing up for their
semi-annual prison outreach event at the Stiles State Prison
Unit. Pray for their efforts. They do a good work and are
some of our staunchest supporters!
If you feel compelled to volunteer in working closely with
families in crisis, contact Patricia Mara at 409-548-5886. Not
only do we require many supplies to operate our facilities, we
need individuals who have a heart for personal interaction
with people. If this is you, call Patricia!
Much is on the horizon for events and celebrations. Once we
get our roof and rooms upgraded, I hope to have an open
house reception to show off what has been done because of
the generosity of so many. As well, to say “Thank You” once
again!
Be sure and check out our website, www.clci.biz and our
Facebook site, https://www.facebook.com/

Thank you for all you do to support our efforts in touching the
lives of families in life crisis situations.
In Christ Alone!

Special points of
interest:
 The economic
toll of
incarceration
in the U.S. tops
$1 trillion, and
more than half
of that falls on
the families
and
communities of
the people
incarcerated.
 “Incarceration
doesn’t happen
in a vacuum.”

Volunteer Connection
Shepherd’s Inn
A 28 member youth group from Little Cypress BC was here the
past few weeks and assisted greatly in getting some of the
ongoing list of chores accomplished; 84 man hours is the
equivalent of 10.5 days with one person and was completed in 3
hours by many. We truly could not function to the degree that
we have been able without the manpower, in the form of youth
this summer, which we have received.
Calvary Beaumont Women of Worship Sunday School and Choir
members have been collecting much needed pillows and school
supplies. We have had 175 guests from everywhere this month
including 11 members of one family who drove in from Mexico
last weekend heightening the need for a bi-lingual staff member.
My limited proficiency is supplemented by my phone’s
translation capacity and calling my assistant and putting her on
speaker phone. We were blessed by a bilingual devotional
service last weekend with Domingo Torres from Central City and
look forward to increasing that service to our non-native
speakers as they are increasing.
Calvary House Happenings
First Baptist Groves WMU provided backpacks and school
supplies to one of our satellite families and Calvary House
Services provided uniforms. CH has also provided groceries to
several families and bus pass assistance as well as a pending
Greyhound ticket to a pregnant young woman needing to return to
family out of state.
CLCI Business Bits
The previous twelve weeks of summer provided a best case
scenario with regard to staffing needs at Shepherd’s Inn. In
addition to me and the weekend hostesses our returning volunteer
from Corpus, Patsy Torres, served as my Administrative Assistant
as well as other support positions. With the beginning of the
semester two of our interns have departed, as well has my
assistant, and we are back to a skeleton crew.
Steps are in place to secure one or more interns. If you or anyone
you might recommend would be interested in serving as a
weekend host/ess please let me know at 409-548-5886.
