What is the Corollary Sports Program for the Middle School?
The Corollary Sports Program is a new offering designed to give all students a fun and rewarding sports experience.
This year each middle school will offer bowling, bocce, or a combination of the two. AACPS is committed to providing
competition opportunities that meaningfully challenge and involve all students. These opportunities lead to improved
sports skills, higher self esteem, equal status among peers and new friendships.
How does it compare to the existing Intramural Program?
The goals of the Corollary Sports Program and those of the existing intramurals program are similar. Both programs
strive to:

teach students good sportsmanship,

build positive self-esteem,

acquire new sport-specific skills,

improve physical fitness,

foster new friendships, and to

develop the concept of teamwork.
What are the benefits to all students who participate in the program?

Students with and without disabilities will have the opportunity to participate together on unified teams;

Participate in practice and competitive sports in a fun, comfortable, and safe environment;

Develop new friendships by increasing interaction among students in the school through a common interest in
athletics;

Develop a feeling of self-worth and importance through working together as a team;

Develop an understanding of the skills and knowledge needed to participate in a sports team;

Provide a positive physical and emotional outlet for improving the level of personal physical fitness;

Attain and develop an interest in activities that have the potential for lifetime sports participation.
