Poetry Please! To celebrate National Poetry Day on Thursday 8 October 2015 Emma Treharne of The Kings and Queens News Team has chosen “Hope is the thing with feathers” by Emily Dickinson “for its inspiring message and beautiful lexical feel, I enjoy it as a well-written reminder of the value of hope in situations when worry and anxiety might take over. I also enjoy its rhyming pattern and find it a very relaxing read to help put thins in perspective when life snowballs!!” Hope is the thing with feathers That perches in the soul, And sings the tune without the words, And never stops at all, I’ve heard it in the chilliest land, And on the strangest sea; Yet, never, in extremity, It asked a crumb of me. And sweetest in the gale is heard; And sore must be the storm That could abash the little bird That kept so many warm.
