COACHES MEETING Sunday, July 1, 2012 at 8:40 am Location: Desk There will be a short meeting prior to the meet with the Meet Director, the Referee and the designated Coaches to discuss any issues to be resolved. All Coaches are requested to verify the seeding of their swimmers carefully, and bring any discrepancies to the attention of the Meet Director immediately. If such discrepancies cannot be resolved before the event is called, the Program is deemed to be correct. GENERAL INFORMATION ELIGIBILITY The Firecracker Invitational is open to all swimmers, 18 years and under, as of June 15, 2012, competing for one of the following teams: Aquaknights, Dana Hills, LMYA, Pleasant Hill Dolfins, San Ramon Aquacats, Vista Diablo and Ygnacio Wood. A swimmer’s age as of June 15, 2012 will determine the age group in which they may compete. Assistant coaches, providing they meet all eligibility requirements, may compete. Head coaches may NOT compete. RULES 1. Current USA Swimming Rules will govern the entire meet including: strokes, turns, starts, finishes, warm ups, swimsuits, etc., with the following exceptions: a. 6 & Under swimmers shall be required to swim each stroke 100% correctly, 70% of the distance. b. There will be non-conforming relay events. In each leg of a relay event, the swimmer must swim the designated stroke correctly (with exception for the 6 & THE FIRECRACKER INVITATIONAL July 1, 2012 under swimmers noted above). At the end of each leg, the finish rule for each stroke applies in each case. 2.! Referees will have sole authority in determining whether a swimmer is too late. 3. All events will utilize the semi-automatic push button Colorado Timing System with touch pads. There will be three timers per lane: 2 push-button judges and 1 with an electronic stopwatch. 4. NO swimmer may swim under another swimmer’s name. SCHEDULE OF EVENTS Meet programs will be available for purchase at the meet for $5. Event No. ! The Firecracker Invitational will use “A” and “B” times as used by the CCVSC. (See “Time Standards” below) Swimmers must be entered into the “A” or “B” division based on their entry times. Individual events will be seeded with the fastest swimmers in the final heat. All events are Timed-Finals. FREE, FLY and BREAST RELAY ENTRIES The Free, Fly and Breast relay events are Mixed Gender (both boys and girls) and U18. All relay events are 250-yard events and each leg is swum by a swimmer in a specific age group. Leg 1 25-yards 6 & Under Leg 2 25-yards 7-8 Leg 3 50-yards 9-10 Leg 4 50-yards 11-12 Leg 5 50-yards 13-14 Leg 6 50-yards 15-18 We are aware that some teams have an imbalance in age groups that makes it difficult to enter a balanced number of entries. (For example, you may only have five 9-10 swimmers) As such, we are allowing some flexibility in seeding when it comes to these situations. We will allow a swimmer from one age group in either direction for any leg of the relay as long as there is no other eligible swimmer available. The only exception to this rule is for leg 1 & 2 where these can only be swum by swimmers in 6 & Under and 7-8 age groups. For example, a team only has five 9-10 swimmers (combined boys and girls) available. If other age groups have more swimmers, for the relays beyond the 5th entry, Team A could have a 7-8 or a 11-12 swim Leg 3 of the relay. THE FIRECRACKER INVITATIONAL July 1, 2012 If a team only has combined five 6 & Under and 7-8 swimmers available, they can only enter a maximum of five relays per relay event. No swimmer can swim in multiple relay teams per event. Our expectation is that large teams may enter 10-15 relay teams per stroke. Since Hy-Tec has no way to automatically check the eligibility of a swimmer, this will be a manual process. Please respect the spirit of the meet and keep the entries as “clean” as possible. MEDLEY RELAY ENTRIES The Medley Relay events are mixed gender events with wider age groups than normal. There is no requirement that a specific age swimmer must swim any leg of the “normal” Medley Relay event. In theory, a team may enter four 18-year old boys in a 13-18 Mixed Gender, 200-yard Medley Relay event. As a reminder, the three Medley Relay events are: 95 100-yard Medley Relay ! 8 & Under, Mixed Gender 96 200-yard Medley Relay ! 9 - 12, Mixed Gender 97 200-yard Medley Relay ! 13 - 18, Mixed Gender For Medley Relay entries, we would GREATLY appreciate SEED TIMES. This helps avoid the situation where a team of 13-year olds is crushed in a heat by a team of 18-year olds. TIME STANDARDS The time standards below are the Contra Costa Valley Swim Conference time standards. For this event, we will not be using C (County) time standards nor will we be enforcing Q (Qualifying) time standards. These times are in the Hy-Tek meet file that you received. If a swimmer does not check in, s/he will not be allowed to swim in that event. Swimmers must have their BACKS marked before coming to the CLERK OF THE COURSE, last name, first name, stroke, heat/lane. See program for details. Mix Gender/Age Relay teams MUST arrive at the CLERK OF THE COURSE together. You will find a staging area labeled with your team name. This will be the area your team should queue up before entering CLERK OF THE COURSE together. As there are six swimmers in each relay team, this rule will be enforced strictly. Since all relay teams will have older swimmers on the team, a coach is not required to escort the relay teams to the clerk. However, we highly recommend using one shepherd for the relays in order to organize the varying age levels. PLEASE be sure that your swimmers take note of THE FIRECRACKER INVITATIONAL July 1, 2012 the name (letter) of the relay that they are swimming in. As some teams will have 10-15 relay team entries, it is critical that we don’t confuse relay entries.
