Places in New York.
The success of this activity depends on how much your

likely to have heard about the Statue of Liberty, but won't be
able to work out the correct matching for e.g. the
Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Key: The Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building, Central
Park, Times Square, Manhattan Island, Brooklyn Bridge,
Metropolitan Museum of Art, Broadway Theatres.

Follow up
1.A., 1.B., 1.C. Talking about your favourite place.
This activity gives students the opportunity to use the
language they were exposed to in the video in their own

ask students to write down the answers in 1.B.
Key: 1 - Where [f], 2 - often [a], 3 - like [b], 4 - interesting [e],
5 - about [c], 6 - describe [d]
2.A., 2.B. Question practice.
Students complete the gaps individually. Check with the
whole class.
Key: 1 - are there, 2 - any, 3 - some, 4 - any, 5 - Is there
Give students some tips if they have problems coming up
with their ideas in 2.B. Circulate, monitor and assist. If you
have time, ask students to report back to class on their
partners.

Transcript
[Please note: orginal, spontaneous utterances have been used throughout so minor grammatical or lexical slips may
occasionally occur. They do not affect the message though and can be exploited to show our students that English, as a
global language can be spoken in a number of communicative ways.]
Gosia: Welcome to the next episode of
Voices of New York. This multi-cultural
city has a lot to offer and today I will
show you how to spend a great day out
here.
Gosia: When you hear New York, you
will probably think of The Statue of
Liberty or Empire State Building. But
there are many other places in Big Apple
to spend a great day out.
Voice: Central Park is located in the
middle of Manhattan and it covers more
than 3 square kilometers. This park is
surrounded with statues, hills, lakes and
trees and just outside of it you can find
the highest skyscrapers in the world.
Alcione Gonzales: I come to Central Park
at least once a week. When I come here
I like to go running or if not I like to walk
around on walking paths. And Central
Park is a big, beautiful park in the middle

work out, play in the grass, sit on the
benches and read books or write or have
lunch.

can you find in Central Park?
I’m here every day and I love it, it’s
wonderful. There are a lot of people, a
