Summer School Registration papers, emergency form, and non-refundable tuition are due into the St.
Patrick School office by Friday, May 26th. Students will be placed in classes in the order in which
registration papers and tuition are received. Please respond early to assure your first choices. Classes are
subject to cancellation due to insufficient enrollment.

Students receive an hour of ELA and an hour of Math each day. The third hour will be a fun,
enrichment activity - sample activities are listed above.
Class Selection Guide
These are the classes being offered for St. Patrick Summer School 2017. Be sure to check the age and session
availability of each. Not all classes are offered for all grades or in all sessions. When choosing an age group, please use
the grade that the student will be entering in the fall of 2017. Students referred by teacher or principal must attend
2 Sessions.
Cooking Grades - Come and explore your culinary talents and skills in cooking and baking! Along with
cooking techniques students will learn about food nutrition and eating a balanced diet, and social graces
associated with food and dining. Enrichment
Creative Writing - Students will have the opportunity to use their imaginations. We will read and enjoy
shorter works, noting the techniques of published writers. Emphasis will be placed on writing as a process:
effective brainstorming, prewriting, editing, and revision. Students and teacher will talk about each piece
of writing, discussing strengths and weaknesses. Instruction will be provided to boost skills. Three to four
pieces will be written, and one will be revised and put into final form. Students will be asked to share this
piece with the class. Remedial and Enrichment
Emerging Artists! Welcome young artists to a week of fun art projects. Using a variety of different media,
that are unique and cool to use for the emerging artist, students will create various individualized projects.
Enrichment
English Review - Tired of all those red marks on your written assignments? Here is the class for you! We
will review elements of grammar, usage, and mechanics that young writers must master in order to be
proficient. Students will be challenged to daily exercises in editing. Skills mastered will be applied to
writing. We will practice writing sentences of varied structure and paragraphs that are organized and well
developed. Students will also read and write short stories. The work of numerous authors will be shared.
Works will be discussed and critically analyzed. Class will culminate with dramatic readings of work
produced. Skills targeted are critical reading and analysis, writing as a process, illustration, and dramatic
reading. Remedial and Enrichment
Language Arts Workshop - This 3-5 class will focus on both reading and writing components during the
two weeks. Students will read and interpret short stories, identify aspects of writing and create pieces of
their own. In the upper grades students will read different forms of Literature. Students will learn to
identify different parts of a piece of writing while enjoying and interpreting the meaning of the work.
Enrichment and Remedial
Math Workshop - Students will learn to improve problem solving techniques through manipulative and
cooperative learning strategies. Emphasis will be on addition, subtraction, patterns, measurement, time,
and money. In grades 3-5 emphasis will be on addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions,
word problems, time, and money. Remedial
Math Review/Pre-Algebra -This class offers 5-8 students the opportunity to strengthen and reinforce basic
math fundamentals. Focus areas will include mastery of decimals, fractions,
ratios, and their application. Students in grades 7-8 will also have an emphasis on Pre-Algebra
skills and word problem solving. This class also provides an introduction to the basics of algebra, which
would benefit both students in regular and advanced mathematics courses. Remedial and Enrichment
Movie Production - Become the next Steven Spielberg and learn the art and design of creating films from
scratch. Students will learn stop animation skills, live video feed, and how to use imovie for your finished
production product. Enrichment
Liturgy Band/Choir - If you were born to make music then this is the 6-8 class for you. Students will
practice songs to prepare for being a part of Liturgy band in the Fall. Enrichment
Play Production - During the two week session students will memorize lines, make costumes and scenery,
and learn dances for a mini musical production. Enrichment
Reading Workshop - This class offers students a chance to improve their reading and writing skills. The
focus will be on recognizing sounds and letters in context, blending sounds into words, recognizing parts of
speech within reading material. This class will also review the proper use of speech, punctuation,
capitalization, fragment/complete sentences, and proper verb use. Enrichment and Remedial
Fun with Science - This class will help students understand the basics of Earth Science (gardening, soil, solar
system, environmental studies,) Biology (plant science, flower dissection, cells,) Astronomy (solar systems, stars, black
holes, telescopes.) Chemistry (balancing equations, solids and liquids,) and Oceanography (water science, marine and
fresh water biology.) Science activities will involve art, food, nature, and cool experiments. Enrichment and

Three D Modeling/Coding – Learn to make your own 3 D Model on the computer in this interactive and
hands on class! Learn how to program a Raspberry Pi to create your own interactive computer device.

Video Game Design – Learn to make your own video game in this interactive and hands on class!
Enrichment
Writer’s Workshop - This class is meant to be a creative adventure! Students will read examples of good
writing by professional authors and use these as models for their own writing. Basic writing skills will be
practiced and there will also be opportunities to design and illustrate books for their favorite pieces of

charged for every minute I am late.

⇒ Pay my fees in advance. I realize that if payments are made after the care has been
given, I will be responsible for a $10.00 late fee. I realize that all registration fees
