INFORMATION FOR ATHLETES, MANAGERS AND TRAINERS
1. WHAT IS ‘FROM VALENCIA TO RIO’ PROGRAMME?
This is a project to encourage and recognize the Olympic participation to be held
exceptionally in the 35th Valencia Trinidad Alfonso Marathon.
Valencia Trinidad Alfonso Marathon organization will pay €5,000 cumulative
to other prizes for any athlete of any nationality, who thanks to the record
achieved in Valencia Trinidad Alfonso Marathon-2015, will be chosen by their
national federation to compete in the Marathon at the Olympic Games in Rio de
Janeiro-2016.
1. WHAT IS ‘FROM VALENCIA TO RIO’ PROGRAMME?
‘From Valencia to Rio’ is an opportunity addressed to the athletes who aim to
represent their country in the longest race of the Olympic schedule. The organization
wants to achieve two objectives:
1. A race promoting our Olympic spirit.
2. Support with an economic contribution to stability, security and confidence of
runners in their preparation for the Olympic Games; without doubt, the most important
sports event of the 2015-2016 season.
2. WHICH ARE THE OBJECTS OF VALENCIA MARATHON?
The city of Valencia is working to organize a marathon of the highest level on the 15th
November and tries to put in the popular and elite runner’s place.
Coinciding with the 35th edition of our race, we want an attractive event in all fronts:

1. An important record for the winner.
2. A large group of international runners from the five continents achieving in
Valencia their athletic goals.
3. Exquisite treatment to each and every one of the participants.
4. All these leaded by the principles of culture of hard work, fair play, equal
opportunities and respect and promotion of sport as a source of universal
values promoted by Valencia City Council, the SD Correcaminos (organizers) and
Trinidad Alfonso Foundation (main contributor).
3. WHAT DATE WILL THE VALENCIA MARATHON BE HELD?
Valencia Trinidad Alfonso Marathon will be held on the 15th November 2015, within the
period of obtaining the minimum qualifying standard for the Olympic Games in Rio de
Janeiro-2016.

4. IS IT AN AUTHORIZED AND CERTIFIED MARATHON?
Valencia Marathon is a race of 42.195 kilometers authorized and certified to be
held since 1981. It is currently listed as a Road Race Silver Label by the IAAF. It is
broadcast live on Spanish public sports channel Teledeporte, as well as the international
channel of Televisión Española [state television].

5. IS THE CIRCUIT FLAT?
Yes, and it is the fastest marathon in Spanish soil, for its record and the average of
its 20 best historical time trials. Valencia is located 12 meters above sea level and has
a completely flat marathon circuit. So far, since 2013 the record is maintained by the
Kenyan Félix Keny with 2h:07:14 and the Ethiopian woman Azalach Maresh with
2h:27:01. Since 2010 Valencia Marathon has always been won with records below 2h:10.
As additional fact, in October 2014, the Kenyan Abraham Cheroben ran Valencia Half Marathon (another race also
organized by SD Correcaminos and the City Council with the support of Trinidad Alfonso Foundation) in 58:48;
the sixth world best record ever.
6. HOW IS VALENCIAN WEATHER IN NOVEMBER?
The historical average for the second half of November in Valencia is between 15
degrees maximum and 7 minimum, with an average humidity of 60%.

7. WILL THERE BE PACEMAKERS IN MVTA?
Yes. In order to facilitate obtaining Olympic minimum time and high records in general,
the 35th Valencia Trinidad Alfonso Marathon offers three groups of pacemakers
totally free that will run approximately at the following speeds:

Furthermore, there will be pacemakers among women for the half marathon in 1h:13:30 approximately, and they
will also run until the 25 Km. Nevertheless, the eve of the race a technical meeting will take place to confirm
times, and identify groups and pacemakers.
8. WHICH ARE THE CONDITIONS TO WIN €5,000?
In order to obtain €5,000, MVTA organization will be based on a double verification:
1. The Start List of the Olympic final women marathon (on the 14th August 2016) and
final men marathon (on the 21st August 2016), where runners will have to prove their
condition of Olympic runner.
2. The Season Best (verified by the IAAF) of the 2015-2016 season on the day when
the Olympic race is held. It will be verified from the beginning of the 2015-2016
season (1st November 2015) till the starting moment of the Olympic final marathon.
Thus, it will be verified that the best time is the one achieved at the Valencia
Marathon.
9. WHEN WILL I BE PAID €5,000?
The organization will pay €5,000 from 21st August 2016, once verified the conditions
stated in point 8 and that runner meet the requirement on anti-doping of the IAAF.
10. CAN I OBTAIN €5,000 IF I AM AN ATHLETE ALREADY
PRESELECTED FOR THE OLYMPIC GAMES?
If you have been selected or preselected by your national federation before 1st
November 2015, you have the right to obtain €5,000 whenever you meet the
requirements in points 8 and 9.
11. IF MY NATIONAL FEDERATION SELECTS ME FOR THE OLYMPIC
GAMES IN ANOTHER MODALITY WHICH IS NOT THE MARATHON?
In this exceptional case, to obtain €5,000 there are three requirements:
1. Your condition of Olympic participant in another modality will be verified (eg.
10,000 meters).
2. It will be checked that the Season Best in the marathon of the 2015-2016 season
on the date of your Olympic participation is the one obtained in the Valencia
Marathon-2015.
3. In addition, that your Season Best is below the Olympic minimum time standard
(2h:17:00 and 2h:42:00 men and women, respectively).
12. CAN I OBTAIN MORE ECONOMIC PRIZES IN THE MARATHON IN
ADDITION TO €5,000?
As every other participant, the runners aspiring to Olympic minimum time will also
be entitled to receive the corresponding prizes for position and record (bonus)
that establishes Valencia Marathon organization, provided that they meet the
requirements set by it.
13. WHO IS IN CHARGE OF THIS PROJECT WITHIN THE VALENCIA
MARATHON ORGANIZATION?
Within the Valencia Marathon organization there is a Sports Technical Committee in
contact with national federations, the IAAF managers and official representatives.
This Committee will verify your condition as a candidate to Olympic minimum
time, will resolve your doubts and try to offer every facility, so on the 15th
November 2015 the runner only has to worry about running fast.
14. WHAT EXPENDITURES OF JOURNEY AND STAY ARE ASSUMED
BY THE ORGANIZATION?
Once your condition of athlete aspiring to Olympic minimum time is verified by the
Technical Committee, Valencia Marathon organization will pay the expenses of your
vest number and your stay in Valencia from 12th to 16th November 2015, but in
any case will cover the cost of your journey or stay of your companions.

15. WHICH IS THE DEADLINE TO CONFIRM MY
PARTICIPATION IN THE VALENCIA MARATHON?
Deadline is until September 30th, 2015 or while hotel rooms for elite athletes
reserved by the organization last.
