LAC LA BICHE COUNTY Activity Guide FALL 2016 Your Playground of Opportunity What does the Activity Guide cover? The Activity Guide covers Lac La Biche County-run programs and services, especially those related to recreation, fitness, and the well-being of families. For a list of events and activities organized by other community groups in Lac La Biche County, please consult the blue pages in the Lac La Biche Post’s annually-published Little Black Book. Thank you. Discover Lac La Biche County Lac La Biche County is famous for its many lakes, most notably Lac La Biche Lake, which is a French translation of a Cree phrase meaning “Lake of the Elk.” In addition to lakes, rivers and streams, the County’s landscape features forests, farmland, muskeg, and dozens of recreation areas and trails. Lac La Biche County would like to thank the people of our region for their strong humanitarian support during the Fort McMurray area evacuations earlier this year. Hundreds of local residents and community groups donated and volunteered to make evacuees feel welcome and comfortable. The County, in partnership with Big Dog 103.5 FM and the Lac La Biche Post, is holding two “County Proud” community appreciation events to thank people for their goodwill with a free meal and entertainment. The first event will be on September 16 at Plamondon’s Festival Centre. The second will be at the Bold Center in Lac La Biche on September 23. Both events will run from 5-8 p.m. 2 INTRODUCTION ACTIVITY GUIDE Recreation and Fitness Bold Center 04 About the Facility 05 Amenities 06 Child Mind Cenovus Play Centre 07 User Guidelines Portage Pool 08 About the Facility 09 Public Swim 10 Lesson Guidelines 11 Red Cross Swimming Lessons 13 Adult Lessons 14 Leadership Courses Admission and Memberships 16 Memberships, Payment Information 17 Drop-In Rates Programs And Services 18 Bold Center Drop-In Leisure Opportunities 20 Registration Information 21 Adults/Seniors (Classes, Yoga, Workshops, Leagues) 23 Children/Youth (Yoga, Workshops) Community Spaces 24 Winter Recreational Facilities Family and Community Support Services Dates to remember For more information, refer to booklet page. FAQS How are swimmers evaluated? Students are evaluated during each class of the session. To complete a level, the swimmer must be able to demonstrate the skills in that level 3 times. Because swimmers develop differently, it’s normal for participants to repeat levels. My child was asked to repeat a level they already completed. What can I do? Bring your child to the pool to practice. Children who do not spend time in the pool outside of class will rarely be able to advance to the next level. What should I do if my child is sick or will miss a class? If you know your child will miss several lessons, please let the instructor know. Missing more than one lesson may impact your child’s ability to complete the level. 10 PORTAGE POOL RECREATION AND FITNESS Red Cross Swim Preschool UNPARENTED LESSONS AGES | 3-6 years Cost | $55 Starfish (Ages 4 to 12 months) *Babies must be able to hold their heads up.
