WORSHIP ARTS TEAM CRITERIA
The following are a list of criteria indicating the preferred qualifications for a
member of the Collective of The Harbor Students:
1. Pursue a Christ Honoring Lifestyle – All believers are called to be
ambassadors for Christ, not just on Sundays, but at all times. Those who are given the
responsibility of standing before others to lead them as a teacher, worship leader, band
member, tech team member, creative team member or otherwise, have an even greater
responsibility to live out the call of being a “fully devoted follower of Christ.” When you are
on stage, you are a leader. This requirement is not meant to be a means of judging
anyone, nor should it prompt anyone to legalistically evaluate their or anyone’s walk with
God. It is about a commitment to spiritual Growth by abiding in Christ (John 15).
Several Key Expectations:
• All team members should be investing in their spiritual growth with other people on
a regular basis. This means regularly attending small group and Midweek.
• All team members will protect the unity of the team and the church by committing
to model Christ-like relationships and to pursue conflict resolution in a Christhonoring manner.
• All team members should be aware of the impact one can have on the students
around, and therefore choose to live a life that reflects the biblical character of
Christ daily.
• All team members must lead from their position with humility. Worship through
music is an incredible opportunity to open our hearts and minds to praising our
great God. The same goes for the tech team behind the scenes, and the creative
team even more so behind the scenes. Ultimately, it is God working through us
that even allow us to do His work. He gave us these gifts of singing, playing a
certain instrument, or using our creative abilities as part of the tech and arts team.
Therefore, we are to use those gifts with humble and thankful hearts, knowing it is
all for His glory.
2. Technical Ability –
•
•
•
Band members should be able to demonstrate sufficient ability in their area of
expertise. An audition process will seek to affirm each individual who wishes to join
the team while assessing his or her preparedness to join the team. Those
auditioning may be asked to work on some areas in order to improve their skill level
and then, re-audition at a later date. They may also be redirected to another area of
ministry dependent on one’s God given gifts.
Tech team members should have an openness and willingness to learn and be
trained in their desired craft. Multiple trainings will occur for students who desire to
be a part of this area of serving.
Creative team members should be ready to help and use their gifts to serve as
new creative projects come up. They must be willing to work as a team, serve the
Lord with their specific gifts, and use creativity to express the greatness of God in
new ways.
3. Time Commitment – There is a significant amount of commitment necessary in
order to be a part of the Collective.
Band Members must:
• Be prepared:
o Band members are required to know the music before arriving to any
rehearsals. Practice and memorize. This allows us to lead others with
minimal distraction and allows us the freedom to worship through music
without being distracted by not knowing the music well.
• Be on time for all rehearsals and services. This means being set up and ready to
begin at the start of the rehearsal, run-through or service. We begin on time in
order to respect all those involved
o Rehearsals: Sunday 1:30p-3:00p
o Run-through: Wednesday 5:00p-6:30p
o Service: Midweek Wednesday 6:30p-8:15p
• In addition, there are hang-outs, special retreats, and team meetings that members
will be asked to attend.
Tech Team Members must:
• Be focused and be attentive to the producer, who will be giving direction
concerning lights, sound, camera and pro presenter.
o Also, be ready for all cues for your specified area, in order to allow the
service to run with ease and without distraction.
• Be on time for all rehearsals and services. This means being in position, ready to
go at the specified times.
o Rehearsals (Required for Sound ONLY): Sunday 1:30p-3:00p
o Run-through (required for all except camera): Wednesday 5:00p-6:30p
o Service: Midweek Wednesday 6:30p-8:15p
Creative Team Members must:
• Be flexible. Most of the creative elements asked of this team member will
generally be at specific times and in specific seasons. This team is not a huge
commitment weekly, but will have specific seasons and events that have greater
needs than in others.
4. Complete Specified Team Application – This is located at theharbor.life under
the Students tab, or can be acquired from the Student Ministry Worship Leader upon
request.
5. Complete a Scheduled Meeting with Student Ministry Worship Leader From this point, the Student Ministry Worship Leader will give some next steps.
For a Band Member:
• It could be an ask to work on some areas in order to improve their skill level and
then re-audition at a later date,
• To be redirected to a new area of ministry based on one’s God given gifts, or
• To set up an Audition slot.
• Check out the Audition Process document for more information.
For a Tech Team Member:
• It could involve scheduling training dates in order to learn one’s craft, or
• Being redirected to a different area of ministry dependent on one’s God given gifts.
For a Creative Team Member:
• It could be showing some creative work,
• Jumping right in to a project, or
• Being redirected to a new area of ministry dependent on one’s God given gifts.
Dress Code
For a band member:
It is important to dress modestly, especially when on stage. So:
Guys and Girls
• No shorts
• No tank tops
Girls Specific
• No dresses or skirts
• No low-cut shirts
For a Tech Team Member:
There is no specific dress for the tech team, but be modest as you would
anywhere else. Note that shorts, skirts, dresses, and appropriate tank tops
are okay!
*Note: There is no specific dress code for rehearsal.
