VIII. Individual Reports & Ideas
Raphael Rubalcaba

House party at Roni Mayben’s house was a huge success.

Presented at Pilgrim Church HIV education workshop.

HIV education classes continue here at the Center.
Anne Runion (Pilgrim Church)


Church Youth Group is coordinating Church’s participation in AIDS Walk.
Held HIV/AIDS education workshops for 7th-12th graders at which Raphael presented.

Pilgrim Church is not having a Halloween party this year; they may hold a joint event with Fraternity
House.

A World AIDS Day event is in the works. Speakers are being sought.

Holistic sex education classes for 7-9th and 10th-12th graders will start in January.
Linda Johnson

Just returned from vacation. Front desk was covered by Beck and volunteers with no glitches.

The Center is now being cleaned by volunteers 1-2 times/week

A new Front Desk trainee is starting this week.
Carolyn Bolton will be attending the CenterLink Leadership summit in Las Vegas with Max on Sept. 18-19.
Max Disposti is excited to have started his Nonprofit Management and Leadership Master’s program.
Satie Jess is promoting the Center at Macy’s.
David Blasband has set up a Google Docs account for Board members and staff to upload committee
minutes and other document.
Guests Marc Lim, Beck Johnson, & Eleanor Evans introduced themselves.
Sister Yes She Did
The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence are . . .

Dialoguing about how to get more involved in North County.

Working on creating a scholarship program for youth.

Have arranged for Sisters to travel from S.D. to Oceanside for Pride by the Beach on the "Sister Express"
(i.e., by train).

Considering having a booth at Pride by the Beach.
NEW BUSINESS
IX. Gender Advocacy Project (GAP) Committee (Max, Beck and Marc)

The Committee has 5 members and meets every 3 rd Monday of the month.

Three support/discussion groups are currently running.

GAP will be working closely with Vista Community Clinic when it opens its Trans* clinic

Reviewed committee’s proposed mission statement and list of committees.
Motion: Approval of formation of GAP as a Center committee was unanimously approved.

X. Aids Walk Fundraising Campaign (Max)

The AIDS Walk grant is now a matching rather than double-matching grant.

TriCity will put their $3000 grant towards AIDS Walk.

Maurizio will be holding Zumba class on Saturday, September 20th.for donations to AIDS Walk.
X. Action Plan - Priority 1, Goal 2, Action #2: Identify potential business contributors; decide which
businesses will be contacted and by whom.
All Board retreat attendees identified, and agreed to contact, a business to approach about the possibility of
contributing to the Center.
XI. Final Vote (closed session for those who attended the Board retreat) - Strategic Plan Priority II: A governing
board that reflects the North County LGBTQ community’s diversity and is fully engaged in promoting
the organization’s achievement of its mission, developing and refining its vision and upholding its
values; keeper & champion of the mission.
Motion: The Action Plan for the Strategic Plan's Priority II, completed by the Executive Committee, was
unanimously approved.
XI. Mission Statement - Final Vote (closed session)
Motion: The new mission statement drafted at the Board retreat was reviewed and unanimously approved.
XII. Adjournment: The meeting was adjourned at 8:55 p.m.
