PROPEL™ E3 carbon black
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
PROPEL™ E3 carbon black is a very high structure reinforcing carbon black with
a medium surface area. Die swell and extrusion shrinkage are relatively low and
extrusion appearance is good compared to other reinforcing carbon blacks. It is
relatively easy to disperse with fast incorporation and excellent dispersion.
Compounds made with PROPEL E3 carbon black demonstrate a level of
reinforcement similar to compounds made with ASTM N375, N339 and N347
type carbon blacks, and also show a considerable reduction in hysteresis.
PERFORMANCE FEATURES
PROPEL E3 carbon black is particularly suited for tire treads where hysteresis
needs to be reduced while tread wear needs to be kept at a good level.
Application examples are truck tire treads and retreads where the combination
of low heat buildup, low rolling resistance and adequate abrasion resistance
are vital to the tire end user.
PROPEL E3 carbon black can be used for passenger car and light truck tire
treads that also contain silica. The product has low hysteresis and high
stiffness, which allows a lower silica blend ratio, and has a positive impact on
compound mixing, processing and tread wear.
Because PROPEL E3 carbon black has high stiffness and low hysteresis at
medium surface area, the product is also very suitable for tire side wall and
under-tread applications.
