(this is the first Wednesday back at school). The Easter Hat Parade start at 9:15am-10:00am, this will

Students will return to class as normal after First Break.
As I mentioned in our last newsletter, we have 4 students enrolled in Kindergarten but soon this will
become 6. To provide a Kindergarten service to all children until we are granted service approval
Kindergarten children will be placed on a rotational roster. This means, all Kindergarten children will only
be able to attend Kindergarten on their schedule days until we become a registered service. The
rotational roster will start next term, week 1. Between now and the start of next term Mrs Stallan and Mrs
Beckey will make contact with parents to discuss your child’s Kindy days further. Below are Kindy dates
for the remainder of this term and term 2.

Next week, parade will be held on Monday 27th at 2:30pm in the undercover area. This parade will be in lieu of
Friday’s normal parade. At the parade on Monday all end of term certificates will be handed out and our attendance
raffle drawn. Next term we will be trailing parade being held on Friday mornings at 9am. Our first parade next term
will be Friday 21st April at 9am in the undercover area.
As part of our School Wide Positive Behaviour (which is now known as Positive Behaviour for Learning), each week
we have a focus behaviour at Mount Perry State School. The focus behaviour is taught explicitly at the start of the
week and revised throughout the week. This week’s focus behaviours is ‘walk safely around the school’.
Rewards day will be held at the Tin Shed on Wednesday 29th April. All students will participate in rewards this term.
Super Stars will be cooking with the ladies from the CWA, Star Students will be Sand painting and Bright Sparks will
be playing Soccer.
Next term, students will once again be working with Angela Schukle –Accredited Sports Trainer to assist our
students with training in athletics and sports. To enable the entire school to access these session all on the one day,
some student’s lunch times will be adjusted.
Parents and carers, just a reminder that the school/bus turnaround in Mallet Street is not our preferred school car
park. Our preferred school car park for dropping off and picking up students is the school council provided car park in
Annie Street.
Mrs Christensen has uploaded a copy of our Strategic Plan and Quadrennial School Review overview, revised Book
Work Standards and Presentation Guidelines 2016-2018 and our Mount Perry Assessment Benchmarks 2016 V5
(the what and when of assessment) to the school website https://mtperryss.eq.edu.au/Pages/default.aspx. To view
these documents use the following path -Support and resources tab -Documents.
Just a reminder that if you child/children are going to be away from school please contact the school or send in a
note before or after the absent. To date this month we have 13 unexplained absences. Let’s aim to have 0
unexplained absences!
When you are next in the school make sure you have a look at our AIP under A block and our NEW Good News
Stories wall. The walls highlights our core priorities and the action we are taking to achieve our priorities in pictures
and all the GREAT things that are happening at our school to make it a GREAT SCHOOL.
Just remember; Every child matters every day.

Classroom News
Prep, 1, 2 Class – Reading
It’s hard to believe that we are already at the end of what has been an extremely busy term.
Our new intake of Prep children has integrated smoothly. The children have settled very quickly and now seem like
old hands, showing a great willingness and enthusiasm to learn.
For the very first time, we have had the opportunity to welcome Kindy children into our classroom. This is part of a
pilot scheme being trialled in some remote Queensland schools. They have been a most welcome addition and have
blended in seamlessly. The orange hats and shirts are the giveaway.
After our disrupted start to the school year, the Year 1 and Year 2 children are now settling down to some hard
learning. Reading and sight words are still a priority. I am starting to see lots of sight word certificates going home.
Well done to those children! The more they practice the more they will improve. To that end we are still having peer
reading this year with the Y5-6 class on a Friday afternoon. This allows children to read their reading book and sight
words to several different people thus helping to develop their fluency.
.
3 - 4 Class
In the Year 3/4 class for English we have been reading The Witches by Roald Dahl. Students have been looking at
characterisation. This week we will be continuing to look at how events change the characters in the story. Next week
we will be starting our Power Point presentations and speeches about the story and characters.
In Maths we have been working with probability. Students have undertaken a number of experiments using dice and
have been using the language of probability (certain, likely, never, maybe etc.) to explain their results.
5 – 6 Class
I can't believe we only have one week left. We have almost completed all of our assessment for this term as well as
entry pieces for the Mount Perry Show. A reminder that Thursday night is the disco so students are to come dressed
as their favourite movie character and bring some money along to buy a sausage in a bread roll, chocolate or a drink.
Also, there was an invite extended to bus students to remain at school and watch a movie until the disco starts and
then will need to be picked up at the end of the disco 7pm. This Friday, if the weather allows, we will be competing at a
T-ball carnival in Gin Gin against other schools from around the area. If I don't see you at Parent Teacher Interviews or
before school ends I hope you all have a safe and happy holiday and Easter.
