Thanksgiving Facts: Autumn 1621 is when the Pilgrims had a 3 day feast in celebration of surviving their first year. Then, many set aside
a day of prayer and being thankful at different times of the year. Continental Congress (1777) thought it would be good to set aside a day
after military victories. George Washington first suggested December 18th, but then went to November 26th. It wasn’t until1863, that President Lincoln made his Thanksgiving Proclamation in setting a regular day of observance. In 1941, President Roosevelt made Thanksgiving
an official national holiday celebrated on the 4th Thursday of November.

NOVEMBER 2016
As Lynne enjoys some Italian sites
with the family, she requested a reprint
of the OSC member responsibility to
the club.
The line on the renewal form about
all members being responsible for
the debts incurred by the OSC is in
accordance with the Air Force
Instruction (AFI) directive to all
Private Org’s operating on an Air
Force Base. This actually has been
in the Constitution and Bylaws for
decades. When you join our wonderful organization, you are agreeing to
abide by this. Please rest assure
that the OSC carries one million dollars in insurance, so the likelihood
that any individual member would
ever have to pay any debts is slim.
If you have further questions, please
don’t hesitate to ask any board member. Happy sightseeing to Lynne and
her family!
Are you looking to try out a volunteer board position, but not sure if
you can do a whole year? Here is a
great opportunity to help out by being a co-chair. This will give you a

Meets every month at Chapel 3 in the Prairies Housing: 6568 Chapel Lane, Riverside, OH 45433-6003. Directions from Area B: Take Colonel Glenn
Highway toward Airway Road; turn left at the “Speedway” traffic lights onto Spinning Road; turn right onto Chapel Lane and drive to the end.
Our October 7th meeting, we celebrated Halloween with costumes. We
had a ghostly good time playing games
like musical chairs, a wrap your mummy
race as well as batting around a bat
shaped piñata. There were also several
delicious Halloween treats brought in by
members to share.
Our November meeting will NOT be
at the church. We have planned a hike
and picnic at John Bryan State Park, in
Yellow Springs, with our starting point at
the shelter house in the lower picnic area.
Someone will be at the shelter house at
9:30 to meet you. If you prefer to caravan, some of us will meet at “Tom’s
Market” in Yellow Springs at 9:30 am,
then follow each other to the location.
Otherwise, please bring a sweet or savory dish to share for the picnic. If you
want to hike, the trails are beautifully
colored with fall foliage. If you do not
wish to hike, you can stay at the shelter
by the fireplace and visit. At 11:00 am,
we plan on eating. Come and bring the
kids, we look forward to seeing you.
If this will be your first visit with the
group, please feel free to contact Michelle at 937-306-8780 or any of the
chairs listed above with questions you
may have.

Who are we?
We are a very unique volunteer
group to be found nowhere else in the
Air Force. Hours are flexible and vary
according to your schedule. On average, we work 2 ½ hours in the morning
during the school year. During this
time, you are walking and talking and
even exercising without realizing it.
Training is painless and fun! You
can train with a group or on an individual basis. Either way, you soon become
a part of a great group of guides. You
do not need to know the entire museum. Only the areas you feel comfortable in and make a part of the tour that
you, yourself, establish for school
groups ranging from 3rd thru 12th
grade. No sweat, easy!
The best part? The friendships we
form while doing something we love.
We meet on the fourth Thursday morning of every month during the school
year for education and training. Come
join us!

One OSC goal is to promote morale, goodwill, and fellowship among our membership through socials and special activities sure to appeal to a wide range of interests. However,
we are always looking for new and fresh ideas; so if you have a hobby or skill that others might like to try as well, make a suggestion to the Activities Chair (from list on page 2).

We all have those items that we
think, “It just wouldn’t be Christmas if
this wasn’t put out”. We are inviting
members to share their old or handmade
Christmas decorations, especially those
handed down through the family.
They can be tree ornaments or anything
you consider special that bring back
wonderful family memories.
We’ll hear some warm stories and
learn more about each other. This
program should put us all in the mood
to think of what we will display at the
December 7th annual Decorating With
Antiques luncheon.
Please begin planning your
displays for the much-anticipated
December 7th Decorating With Antiques luncheon. All OSC members
and friends are invited to attend, but
only OSC members may enter. You
will be given a 3’x 3’ table space. If
your item is too large (such as a trunk,

the floor.
Displays will be judged, and beautiful antique prizes and handmade
ribbons are awarded for 1st, 2nd and
3rd place in each of the following
categories: Foyer/Living Room, Dining Room, Kitchen, Family Room,
Boudoir/Powder Room, Nursery/Child’s Room, First Time Entry.

Meets: Thurs., 11/17, 10 am-11 am
Location: Packy’s Sports Bar & Grill in the
Hope Hotel (New Location!)
The book we are reading
for November is Adams vs.
Jefferson: The Tumultuous
Election of 1800 (Pivotal
Moments in American
History) by John Ferling.
It will be reviewed by Sue
Craven; however, feel free to join the
discussion and ask questions!
The book is about John Adams and
Thomas Jefferson, two heroes of the
Revolutionary era; once intimate friends,
now icy antagonists locked in a fierce
battle for the future of the United States.
The election of 1800 was a thunderous
clash of a campaign that climaxed in a
deadlock in the Electoral College and led
to a crisis in which the young republic
teetered on the edge of collapse.
Come join us at Packy’s Sports Bar
& Grill in the Hope Hotel.

eager to teach new members how to

strongest following in the Midwest. So
as long as you’re stationed at WrightPatt, why not learn to play!?!
The basic rules of the game can be

Hey, all you Rubber Stamp Artists!
Since the second Friday in November
falls on Veterans’Day, our next creative get-together will slide back a
week to Friday, Nov 18. We’ll meet in
the OSC Activities Room and will be
making a seasonal desktop calendar
designed by Michele Giefer. The finished project will be great for gifting
or even keeping for yourselves! Watch
for an early e-mail describing what
you’ll need to bring, and please be
sure to respond to the Evite by
Wednesday, Nov 16, so that Michele
will have fair warning of how many
kits to prepare!
SHOOTERS cont.

In November, we will meeting at
Fox Shooting Loft in Fairborn
on Thursday, November 17th at
10am to take advantage of the discounted "Ladies Day" where range fees
are only $10 an hour.
