July and August: Where YOU play a part in History ! Press Release SNAPSHOTS OF HISTORY At Meung sur Loire Castle July-August 2015 This summer, Snapshots of History are back! Where YOU play a part in History… Snapshots of History at the castle of Meung are a real time travel experience: History comes to life thanks to re-enactment. All week long: historical workshops for everyone. Every weekend: re-enactors settle their camp and offer you to share their daily life, from the Middle Ages to the XVIII th century. Use all of your senses to discover History: from the knight’s fight to the medieval food tasting, immerse yourself deeply in History. With our diversified program, discover the different faces of the castle throughout the ages... Every weekday (except Monday!) Meet the knight Gabriel, Mary the Housekeeper, or the Archer, for an unusual historic adventure…. The knights’ secrets (in the guardroom) at 11 AM, 3 PM, 4 PM. Meet Gabriel, the knight who will explain you all about armour and the medieval art of fighting. Maybe, YOU will become a new recruit? (not for children under 4) Straight to the heart ! (outdoors) from 11 AM to 1 PM and from 2 PM to 6 :30 PM During the Hundred Years War, bows were powerful weapons… as well as a hunting weapon. Can you tell the difference between all the arrowheads? Can you bend the bow? and… can you hit the target?! (For security reasons, you have to be more than 6 years old) Make your own banner (in the guardroom) at 2 PM Listen to the rules that the herald teaches you, use the scissors and glue, and go home with your own medieval banner (children between 4 and 12 years old). 1 July and August: Where YOU play a part in History ! Dinner’s ready! (in the main kitchen) at 4 PM and 5 PM Learn how to be a well-mannered guest, but also how to set the table in a proper way. Do you know what to serve to a knight, to an old woman, to children? NO? Our cook will tell you! And you can listen while you taste some medieval food and beverages…. Please come and sit down at the table! Let’s have a bath ! (in the bishop’s bathroom) at 6 PM Let Marie the bath keeper reveal to you the secrets of medieval beauty and hygiene: cosmetic tools, perfumes, make-up and beauty masks… she will tell you everything ! Don’t miss Walter, the facetious robot who messed up everything in the castle and the “Whazzat”! NEW! Smell the castle’s odors! Every weekend in July and August : Re-enactors make History back to life… In JULY 4 & 5 July 2015 : Napoleon’s soldiers Get back to 1815 with the light infantry of the Emperors’ army. Soldiers will tell you their stories about Waterloo and Austerlitz while dinner’s cooking. Learn all the secrets of an army on campaign. 11 & 12 July 2015 : Mercenaries’ camp 1429, right after helping Joan of Arc to take the castle back from the English, soldiers settle their camp. Hear their battle memories, observe how they train and take care of their equipment, and discover the pleasure of camp life: cooking, leisure… 18 & 19 July 2015 : Meet the musketeers 2 July and August: Where YOU play a part in History ! Meung, 1625… have you hear about a certain d’Artagnan ? In front of the castle, his companions at arms settle their camp. Let them take you back to the XVII th century and discover the secrets of the musketeers! 23 & 24 July 2015 : Daily life in the XVth century Step back in time through the castles’ History : prove your worth as a bowman, or see if you’re lucky with dice… Unless you prefer to join the knights for training? In the kitchen, meet the cook: she’ll tell you all about her little secrets! And in the bath, meet the bath expert: time to enhance your natural beauty! IN AUGUST 1st & 2nd August 2015: Mercenaries are back! 1429: Meet the mercenaries again: with their wives and children, they settled down by the castle. Come and hear their memories, see how they train and share a game while listening to the cook’s explanations about medieval cooking… But it’s war time, you have to be prepared: will you join the artillery?! “Fire”! 8 & 9 August 2015: Back to the 1780s ! History and Arts Company takes you back to the 1780s: enjoy a leisure day at the castle. Outdoors or indoors, come and play with gentlemen and ladies: card games, lottery, mind games… have a try! You will also learn how to behave properly in the noble assembly, or the fine art of embroidery. Unless you’d rather succumb to the nice smell of cosmetics samples from the cosmetic seller… or to the cooks’ treats! 15 & 16 August 2015: The big Tournament ! 3 July and August: Where YOU play a part in History ! Listen everyone ! During 2 days, knights and soldiers from all over the country will gather and fight ! Admire the fierce knights and their horses jousting… and the brave soldiers on the battleground. Ladies, choose your champion! Children, will you be brave enough to become a squire? 22 & 23 August 2015: Back to the Enlightenment Please join our noble assembly for entertainment: outdoors, you will play blind-man’s bluff… but indoors, you can play lottery, card games and other games in fine company. Unless you’d rather have a nice dance class? During your tour, you may encounter the cosmetics seller… 4 July and August: Where YOU play a part in History !
