SNAPSHOTS OF HISTORY
At Meung sur Loire Castle
July-August 2015
This summer, Snapshots of History are back!
Where YOU play a part in History…
Snapshots of History at the castle of Meung are a real time travel
experience: History comes to life thanks to re-enactment.
All week long: historical workshops for everyone.
Every weekend: re-enactors settle their camp and offer you to share
their daily life, from the Middle Ages to the XVIII th century.
Use all of your senses to discover History: from the knight’s fight to
the medieval food tasting, immerse yourself deeply in History.
With our diversified program, discover the different faces of the
castle throughout the ages...
Every weekday (except Monday!)
Meet the knight Gabriel, Mary the
Housekeeper, or the Archer, for an unusual
historic adventure….
The knights’ secrets (in the guardroom) at 11 AM, 3 PM, 4 PM.
Meet Gabriel, the knight who will explain you all about armour and the
medieval art of fighting. Maybe, YOU will become a new recruit? (not
for children under 4)
Straight to the heart ! (outdoors) from 11 AM to 1 PM and from
2 PM to 6 :30 PM
During the Hundred Years War, bows were powerful weapons… as well as a hunting
weapon. Can you tell the difference between all the arrowheads? Can you bend the bow?
and… can you hit the target?!
(For security reasons, you have to be more than 6 years old)
Make your own banner (in the guardroom) at 2 PM
Listen to the rules that the herald teaches you, use the scissors and glue, and go home
with your own medieval banner (children between 4 and 12 years old).

you! And you can listen while you taste some medieval food and beverages…. Please
come and sit down at the table!
Let’s have a bath ! (in the bishop’s bathroom) at 6 PM
Let Marie the bath keeper reveal to you the secrets of medieval beauty and hygiene:
cosmetic tools, perfumes, make-up and beauty masks… she will tell you everything !
Don’t miss Walter, the facetious robot who messed up everything in the castle and the
“Whazzat”!
NEW! Smell the castle’s odors!
Every weekend in July and August :
Re-enactors make History back to life…
In JULY
4 & 5 July 2015 : Napoleon’s soldiers
Get back to 1815 with the light infantry of the Emperors’
army. Soldiers will tell you their stories about Waterloo
and Austerlitz while dinner’s cooking. Learn all the
secrets of an army on campaign.
11 & 12 July 2015 : Mercenaries’ camp
1429, right after helping Joan of Arc to take the castle
back from the English, soldiers settle their camp. Hear
their battle memories, observe how they train and take
care of their equipment, and discover the pleasure of
camp life: cooking, leisure…
18 & 19 July 2015 : Meet the musketeers

July and August:
Where YOU play a part in History !
Meung, 1625… have you hear about a certain d’Artagnan ? In front of the castle, his
companions at arms settle their camp. Let them take you back to the XVII th century
and discover the secrets of the musketeers!
23 & 24 July 2015 : Daily life in the XVth century
Step back in time through the castles’ History : prove your worth
as a bowman, or see if you’re lucky with dice… Unless you
prefer to join the knights for training?
In the kitchen, meet the cook: she’ll tell you all about her little
secrets! And in the bath, meet the bath expert: time to enhance
your natural beauty!
IN AUGUST
1st & 2nd August 2015: Mercenaries are back!
1429: Meet the mercenaries again: with their
wives and children, they settled down by the
castle. Come and hear their memories, see how
they train and share a game while listening to the
cook’s explanations about medieval cooking…
But it’s war time, you have to be prepared: will you
join the artillery?! “Fire”!
8 & 9 August 2015: Back to the 1780s !
History and Arts Company takes you back to the 1780s: enjoy a
leisure day at the castle. Outdoors or indoors, come and play
with gentlemen and ladies: card games, lottery, mind games…
have a try!
You will also learn how to behave properly in the noble
assembly, or the fine art of embroidery.
Unless you’d rather succumb to the nice smell of cosmetics
samples from the cosmetic seller… or to the cooks’ treats!
