Mission Statement
New Years Eve Party

Eddie Dee Smith Senior Center
The primary mission of the Eddie Dee Smith Senior Center is to serve older adults of the community and provide
services, information, meals and activities geared to the needs of an older adult. Our goal is to create a safe and
healthy environment that will enhance the quality of life of older adults through the collaborative efforts of the
Senior Center leadership.
This newsletter is for activities only. For more information on a specific event, you can
call the EDS Senior Center at (951)275-9975 or check the Activities Board. Please note
that most events require advanced registration.
If you are interested in attending an event, you must sign up early.

Holiday Meals
Happy birthday to….
The holidays are packed with so much to
do. We will be cancelling Lunch with
Lynne this month. Enjoy lunch with a
friend, go shopping, or spend time with
family. Enjoy your holidays. We will be
going out to lunch January 2014.
This is a special time of year and there are
some changes on the holiday meals that
all need to be aware of.

30th from 10:00 a.m.—1:00 p.m.
This distribution is ALWAYS the last
Monday of the month. Please schedule
personal appointments for another time.
We are no longer able to pick up your
box for you!!!!

#1 Tuesday, December 24th, Sodexo will
not be providing lunch. Bob and Lynne
and their helpers will prepare lunch that
day. The menu will include soup and
sandwich. There will be a $3 cost for this
lunch. You must register and pay for this
lunch by Dec. 20th.
#2 Tuesday, December 31st, Sodexo will
not be providing lunch. We will be preparing a nice holiday meal and a New
Year’s Eve celebration. This party and
meal will cost $5. You must register and
pay for this by December 23rd.
Arlene Desbien is continuing her Beginning
Quilters class on the first and
third Wednesday at 12:00 p.m.
Come to the class and see what
you need. Arlene is a very
experienced quilter.
Senior Center Christmas
Party
Our annual Senior Center Christmas Party
will be held on Thursday, Dec. 19th at
11:00 a.m. Come join us for a delicious
Sodexo Christmas Lunch, some holiday
treats, great fellowship and special
entertainment. Cost is $5 per person. This
is a great way to visit with friends and
celebrate the holidays.
You must sign up and pay your $5 at that
time. Space is limited, so don’t wait till the
last minute. Only those that have signed up
and paid will be allowed to participate and
eat.
Entertainment will be performed by Dianne
Chavarria. We will be playing “Singo” and
celebrating the season with song. Special
wishes and surprises will also be part of the
celebration .

Stock up for Christmas!!! Looking for a
holiday outfit???? Or you just like to shop?
Come visit Eddie’s Closet. Every day its
open is sale day.
You can either shop by the bag. Everything
you can fit into the bag we give you will
cost only $5. Or you can shop for low
priced individual items.

Potluck Time!
Potluck is taking a break until January. All
of the cooks will be busy in their own
kitchen. Enjoy the season. If you happen
to make something really good….make
double, freeze it and bring to our first
potluck of the new year. Happy holidays
to all.

Coffee Time With Lee
The Doctors TV Show
You are invited to the coffee group that is
held on the first Tuesday of each month at
12:00 p.m. led by Lee Nunez. Discuss the
latest happenings of the Senior Center or
ask questions in Spanish and English.
For those registered to see the taping of
the Doctors, we will leave the Senior
Center at 9:00 a.m. and go directly to the
Farmer’s Market. You can visit the shops
and have lunch. Our arrival time at the
taping is 1:00 p.m. We should arrive
back in Riverside at 7:00 p.m.

Everyone needs to bring a photo ID.
Please dress appropriately in dark solid
colored business attire. Avoid any busy
patterns as well as white or beige clothing. Also, you are not allowed to bring
cell phones, pagers, cameras or any other
electronics to the taping.
HICAP COUNSELING
HERE!
Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy
Program (HICAP) will be here at the Senior
Center the first Wednesday each month. HICAP is a no-cost service to help maximize
your Medicare benefits. You can schedule a
one-on-one appointment. HICAP is a source
of dependable, unbiased and up-to-date Medicare related information.
HICAP provides legal assistance with Medicare appeals and can help you recognize Medicare fraud and abuse.
Appointments are scheduled from 10 a.m.—
2:00 p.m.

Food Distribution
There will be a Food Distribution on
Wednesday, December 4th from 9:00
a.m. to 12:00. It will be a small
distribution, and distribution will last as
long as there is supply.
Christmas Lights
Bob will be driving a group to downtown
Riverside to see the Christmas lights.
This is a favorite part of the Christmas
season. See all the lights and hear the
carols at the Mission Inn. If you want to
be part of the festivities, sign up and join
us at 6:00 p.m., December 18th. Dress
warm since the temperature is dropping.
