The individual steps for filing, correspondence if necessary, and re-submission of a revised version via
the Content Management System Open Journal Systems are described here:
1. Article Submission
If you have received your access data, please use these to log in. You have already been assigned
author status by us, so you can use the button [new post] to upload your paper immediately. 1 It would
be helpful if you would upload your paper as a simple text document (e.g., Word, etc.) with as little
formatting as possible (please no PDFs).
Step 1 - Start:
Before you actually upload your article, we would like to draw your attention to a few points that are
designed to facilitate the subsequent steps. First, on the start page of DIGITAL CLASSICS ONLINE
please select the language in which you have written your article. Below you will see a checklist
displayed, allowing you to check whether your submitted article meets the technical requirements,
including aspects regarding copyright and technical issues. Important: All items in the checklist must
be checked before you can upload your article.
Next you will find a declaration of consent regarding Open Access, the licence and the possibility of
sending a comment to the editors. Please attach the licence Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike

If you click on the button
you will be redirected to step 2.
1 You can also first use [Edit Profile] to customize your profile /contact if necessary, and/or create a
personal password by selecting [Change Password].
Step 2 – Submitting your paper:
You now have the opportunity to upload your paper. You will first find a detailed explanation of how
you can upload your article (file Select-> Upload-> Save and Continue). Note: It is important that,
after you have selected your file from your hard drive, you still select the [Upload] button so that the
file is actually uploaded and the editorial team is notified.
You can check whether the upload was successful by looking at the name of your file and seeing
whether the system has generated a new name for this file. 2
Now, click [Save and Continue] to reach step 3.
Step 3 - Enter the metadata:
In this step, you have the opportunity to revise your data again and, if necessary, amend the institution,
website etc. This is the information you provide for your later readers. 3 You will then be prompted to
specify the title of your paper as well as to add an abstract in English. Below you can add the names of
persons and/or institutions who have contributed to or supported your work. In addition, you can
already enter your finished bibliography here, but you can also leave it in your document.
If you click on [Save and Continue], you will be directed to step 4.
Step 4 - upload additional files:
You now have the possibility to upload one or more files that are useful for understanding your paper.
This could be sources, tables, data etc., that you have not included in your text. The size of these files
is not limited.
If you decide to select and upload a file, you will be redirected to a new page where you have to insert
the file name (required) and tags, type of file; you can also add a short description or any other sort of
information.
2 However, the system OJS changes this file name with every step. Only the sequence of digits up to
the first hyphen remains unchanged and is permanently assigned to your document. Example: 1768342674-1-SM.docx.
3 Please keep in mind that the data you enter here are visible for all readers of this journal.
When you are finished, click [Save and Continue]; you will then first receive a further opportunity to
check your supplementary files. To reach step 5, click on [Save and continue] again.
Step 5 - Confirmation:
Here you have another opportunity to check your uploaded files as well as the additional files. If
everything is correct, please click on the button [complete submission]. With this step, your paper will
be visible to the editors, who now can proceed with assigning your paper to a reviewer.
2. Review
The reviewer has several ways to evaluate your paper:
• accept (your paper is passed on for proofreading without revision)
• revision required (the reviewer suggests a slight revision by the author before further processing)
• submit elsewhere (good paper, but not suitable for the journal DIGITAL CLASSICS ONLINE)
• re-submit for review (the reviewer wishes to see the revised paper)
• reject (the paper is rejected)
• see comment (the reviewer has written a substantial commentary)
On the basis of the review, editors will inform you of their decision and if necessary of the reviewer’s
commentary.
Revision
If you have received a request for a revision of your paper by the editor, please upload your revised
version.4 For this purpose, please log in again. You will now be redirected to your personal DIGITAL
CLASSICS ONLINE page, where you have to click on [1 News]. The re-routing will lead you to a

both cases you have to upload your revised article in the same way.
page with the heading [Recent posts], where you can see by clicking on your paper the title page
[Summary]. You have to click on the button under this heading [assessment] to upload your new
version on the following page.
Here you need to select the file from your hard drive, and click again on the [Upload] button so that
the revised file is directed to the editor for further processing.
3. Copyediting
At this stage, copyediting starts, which is divided into three phases (copyediting, proofreading, layout).
First, an editor will read your paper, and then send you an email as well as provide an annotated
version online. Please revise this version according to the recommendations of the editor. For this
purpose, you need to log in again and proceed as in the revision step of the revision phase [1 News].
Subsequently, however, you do not choose the button appraisal, but have the button [Editorial]. You
will be forwarded directly to the editing phase. You now have the file from the first phase, which
usually ends with XXXXX-XXXXX-1 CE.docx; please download this file and work with the notes of
the editor.
When you have completed this step, you can now upload the revised file and click on [Author
Copyedit] and [File Select] and then [Upload].
IMPORTANT: You have to click on the little envelope icon at the end of your editorial line (you can
see the icon in the screenshot above). Only then can the lecturer see that you have revised your article!
Only then will the process be completely finished.
The editor checks your paper again and clears it for the final layout phase.
3. Proofreading and Layout
Layout phase
At this stage, no action is required on the part of the author. This phase is performed by the editors
alone and serves to create a proof.
Proofreading
In this phase, you will have another opportunity to check the proofread version of your paper.
If the layout phase is complete, you will be informed by the editors by email and asked to check the
proofread version. For this purpose, you need to log in again and proceed just like in the editing phase
(1 Current-> Proofreading-> Layout). You may also submit corrections using the “Proofreading
Corrections” icon. When you are finished, use the “Complete” icon to notify the proofreader.
This is your last chance to make corrections to your paper! Important: Like in the editing phase, you
have to click on the envelope icon in the [proofreading] area to notify the editors.
For larger requests, it is helpful to write an email to the editorial assistant, or even to contact them by
telephone.5
4. Publication
Once the layout of the final version is complete, your paper will be placed online and you will be
notified immediately by the editors.
