23 April
2017:
2nd SUNDAY
OF EASTER
A warm welcome to all
who have come church today,
especially those who are visiting,
or attending for the first time,
or the first time in a while.
If you do not have to rush away,
please stay for fellowship
after the service.
Today we remember the disciple Thomas, who moved
from deep doubt to great faith. As we come together today to acknowledge all Christ has done for us, may God
strengthen our faith, too.
Acts 2.14, 22-32: The Holy Spirit has been poured out upon the disciples
causing them all to speak in different languages. Crowds gather, amazed at
what they’re hearing, and Peter explains the significance of it all.
1 Peter 1.3-9: Peter, disciple and apostle, writes to encourage the first
Christians to persevere in their faith through all their suffering.
John 20.19-31: In the days after the crucifixion, the disciples were in
hiding, afraid that they would suffer the same fate as their Lord. However, something incredible happens to turn their sorrow into joy.

Holy Hour—7pm 9 May
Holy Hour has a time-honoured place in many churches in the Anglican
Communion. It is similar to the devotional watch we keep till midnight on
Maundy Thursday, in response to our Lord’s command to his disciples
in the Garden of Gethsemane, to watch and pray. Holy Hour is a time
for silent prayer and worship. It is a time to turn aside from the
pressures of our busy daily lives, and to offer our love to God, and
receive his love and peace, as we are still with him, and focus on his
presence in the Eucharist.

Easter Commemoration Service—14 May
On Sunday 14 May, 6.30pm at SW we shall be including an act of
commemoration in our evening service as a way of remembering our
departed loved-ones. This is a familiar idea around All Souls, but also
appropriate for Eastertide as we celebrate the Resurrection. Please sign
the list at the back of church if you would any names included in the
prayers at this service. Please let Fr Andrew know, if you know of
someone who would appreciate an invitation to the service.

Thy Kingdom Come Prayer Week—25 May to 4 Jun
Jesus Christ calls every person to follow him. As Christians it’s our duty
and joy to share that invitation. That’s why the Archbishops of
Canterbury and York and leaders of other denominations are inviting
every church in England to join a week of prayer this Pentecost, from 25
May-4 Jun—let’s pray for every Christian to receive new confidence and
joy in sharing this life-transforming faith. The week of prayer will
culminate in the Pentecost weekend, where we pray for the renewal of
the Holy Spirit and the confidence to share our faith.
Ascension Day—25 May
This year Ascension Day falls on 5 May. This is an important day in
the Christian Year, and to mark it there will be a celebration of the
Eucharist, 7pm at HT. It would lovely to see as many people at this
celebration as possible.

vouchers have been collected, school can exchange them for brand
new sports and cooking equipment. Thank you for your continued
support.
WaterAid
Many thanks for your Lent collections for WaterAid.
Congratulations to all celebrating a birthday around now, including:
Joe GODWIN (23/4), Marjorie KENDALL (27/4), Robert SUDALL (28/4).
Vicar’s Lent Challenge—now that Easter is here!
Now that Easter is here I would encourage you to continue to pray to
pray for someone, at least one particular person, with a view to
extending later an invitation to a parish event (worship or social). If you
cannot think of anyone, pray that God will make you aware of someone
he would like you to pray for. Pray for that person, and pray for the right
occasion will present itself, and that they will receive your invitation
positively. Fr Andrew
