Year 1, Term 4:
Hero or Villain?
Theme – Hero or Villain?
This term we will be learning about the past. We will
teach History, Geography, Music, R.E. and Art
through this theme.
In History the children will develop an awareness of
life in different periods – in particular, life in medieval
times. We will be looking at how children played and
how toys have evolved through time.
In Geography we will be looking at maps and
orienteering on our school grounds.
Home Learning: Count in groups of 2 practically,
for example when counting shoes and socks or
climbing the stairs.
Continue to draw children’s attention to key times
within the day and encourage them to read the
time from an analogue clock (focusing on half
past).
In Art we will be making treasure maps.
We will also be learning how to make 3D cards for
Easter and Mother’s Day.
Please note: If you notice children reversing their
numbers when they write, please correct them.
In R.E. we will be learning about different faiths,
covering stories Jesus told and the Easter
celebration.
PE
We will continue to focus on gymnastics on the large
apparatus. The children will develop their gross motor
skills and coordination in both indoor and outdoor PE.
Outdoor PE is on Tuesday. Indoor PE is on
Wednesday (1E) and Friday (1B).
In Music we will be continuing to develop rhythm and
pace by learning songs and exploring the use of
percussion instruments.
Home Learning: Encourage the children to ask
questions and find out about the past. For
example ‘what did you play with when you were
little?’
Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural
Education (SMSC) and RE
This term we will explore different cultural traditions,
including Mothering Sunday. We will continue our
Circle Time lessons focussing on our key values.

pamphlets and maps with children. Encourage
children to ask and answer questions when
reading in order to develop listening and
comprehension skills.

and spelling. We will continue with the Stage 5
