Animal Farm Chapter One In the beginning, the animals of _____1_____ Farm are called into the _____2_____ to hear a speech delivered by ______ _3_________. Some of the animals introduced are two work horses named Boxer and ______5______. In his speech, Old Major begins to talk about the problems the animals have. Some of the problems he lists are too much _____8______ and not enough ____9_____. For the animals, the man they must overrule is _______12_________, who owns the farm. Animal Farm Chapter Two In the first paragraph of this chapter, the reader learns that Old Major has _____1____. After Old Major’s death, two pigs, named _______2______ and ________3_______, who take Old Major’s ideas and begin organizing them. Between the two of them, ______4_______ is more talkative and energetic; while _______5________ is quieter and always seems to get his own way. At the end of the chapter, it is noticed that the ________ had gone missing. Animal Farm Chapter Three After the Rebellion, the animals worked very hard, with the _____1____ directing them. The animal who worked the hardest was ___2________, and his maxim (or repeated saying) was: “I will work ___3_____!” ______4_______ and the cat both didn’t work very hard and ______5_______, the old donkey, thought that life was pretty much the same after the Rebellion as before. On Sundays, the animals did not have to work, but they did have to attend a weekly ____6______, where Snowball and Napoleon would debate over ideas. The Meetings always ended with the singing of _____7_______ of England. The pigs began teaching the other animals how to ____8_____. Snowball and Napoleon disagreed on most issues, and whenever Snowball was talking, the sheep began to bleat: “Four legs ___11_____, two legs ___12___!” After Jessie and Bluebell both had litters of puppies, ______13________ takes them to educate them. At the end of the chapter, Squealer explains that the ____14_____ need the extra milk and apples because they need fuel for their _____15_______. He threatens the other animals by saying: “Surely you don’t want ____16_____ back?” Animal Farm Chapter Four Owners of other farms all begin to hear about what happened on _____1______ Farm. Animal Farm Chapter Six For the whole year the animals _____1______ like slaves as they build the windmill. Napoleon tells them that work is voluntary, but any animal who does not work gets his ______2______ cut in half. The animals, in order to get rock for the windmill, began using the horses to carry boulders up the hill and then ____3___ them, using gravity to their advantage. Boxer _____4______ harder than any other animal. Despite Old Major’s warning not to adopt the vices of man, Napoleon announces that the animals will begin trading with neighboring ____5____. When the animals question whether this follows Old Major’s ideas, _____7_____ continues to convince the other animals that their memories are not correct, that they must have been dreaming. When the other animals find out the pigs have been sleeping in beds, the commandments (without the other animals knowing) are changed to: “No animal should sleep in a bed _______9_________”. Animal Farm Chapter Seven The animals experience a very cold _____1_______, and the crops have been poor. Despite the work being difficult and the animals being hungry, they continue to work on the windmill. To hide the fact that the animals are facing famine, Napoleon has the animals fill the bins with _____2______ and cover the ____3______ with grain and meal. Next, he invites ______4_________ to come through the barn so that he can tell the other farms that _____5_____ Farm is still experiencing success. Napoleon, who usually stays in the farmhouse, commands the _____6_____ to lay eggs to sell through Whymper. Rumors continued to rush around the farm that Snowball has ruined much on the farm. Squealer announces that Snowball had been working for _______14_________ from the beginning. When the animals question his heroism in the Battle of the _______15______, Squealer tells them their memory is wrong. One day, with the ___16____ bounding around him, Napoleon comes out. After Napoleon gives the signal by squealing, the dogs attack four pigs who were said to be working with ______17_________. The animals cower in ______18_______. Napoleon asks if any animal has something to confess. Curiously, several animals confess to having worked with ______19______ and all of those animals are _____20______. The animals are shocked, even ______21______ , who always trusts Napoleon, can’t believe it. At the end of the chapter the animals are banished from ever singing __________22____________. Animal Farm Chapter Eight After the animals question if the commandment of “No animal shall kill any other ___1___” has been broken, they see that it now says, “No animal shall kill any other animal without ____2_____”. ____3____ begins giving all the orders, as Napoleon now stays inside almost all the time. Napoleon continues to decide whom to sell the ______4______ to, Frederick or Pilkington. It’s rumored that ______5________ is extremely cruel to his animals and animals are afraid of him. Napoleon tells them he does not intend to sell the ______6_______ to _____7_______. In the autumn, the animals finally finish the ______8______ windmill. Despite the difficulties of living on Animal Farm, the animals are still _____9______ to live there because it is their own. Despite telling the animals he would never sell the ______10_____ to ____11___, he does it any way. After proudly displaying the bank ____12_____, Napoleon, sadly, learns that the bank notes are ______13______. He called the animals to capture and kill _____14_____. Sure enough, ____15______ and his men invade Animal Farm, armed with a crowbar and a sledgehammer, threatening to destroy the ______16_______. One evening in the summer, Boxer falls and injures his ____8______. When the van arrives two days later, Boxer is placed inside of it and the van begins driving away. Benjamin, who knows how to ____12_____ well, realizes that Boxer has not been placed inside a veterinarian’s van but the van of a ____13______. The animals try to tell Boxer to ____14_____ out of the van. He tries by ____15_____ the door, but he’s no longer as strong as he once was and does not succeed in kicking the door open. _____16______ claims to have been with Boxer to his last moments. Napoleon is always ___19_____!” He convinces the animals that the ___20___ had once belonged to a veterinarian but only recently had been sold to the ____21______. Animal Farm Chapter Ten Many ____1_____ have passed. Most of the animals on the farm have ____2___. Clover and _____3______, the donkey, are still alive, however. The farm is a success and the pigs spend their days inside the house working on reports. One day, Squealer orders the ___4____ to follow him off the farm, and they are gone for a few days. He tells the other animals he is teaching them a new ____5___. Shortly after they return, the animals are shocked to see a pig _____6______ on his hind legs and Napoleon walks out with a ____7_____ in his trotter. When the animals begin to react, the dogs ____8___ and the sheep begin to bleat, “Four legs ____9___, two legs ___10____!” In the end, the Seven Commandments are reduced to ALL ANIMALS ARE ___11____ BUT SOME ANIMALS ARE ____12_____ EQUAL THAN OTHERS. The pigs began to wear ___13____ and invite men from neighboring farms to visit. At the end of a night of toasts and cards, Napoleon announces that Animal Farm will be changing its name to _____14________. In their card game, Napoleon and Mr. Pilkington both play the same ___15____, so the reader knows that one of them (or both) is _____16_____.
