Additional Classes Offered UNDSA History: This the Compton Family Ice Arena’s Learn to Skate program. We are in our 2nd year. Last year we saw Try Learn to Skate: August 18, 2015 & January 6, 2016 6:00-7:00 pm This is a free skate for future UNDSA skaters to tryout skating. Register online for these events! over 400 kids over the course of our five skating sessions. We use the US Figure Skating curriculum, which allows us to offer classes that will suite everyone’s needs. Our classes are open to anyone 2 years old and University of Notre Dame Skating Academy older! My Tot & Me (Morning): We offer a special My Tot & Me class on Wednesday mornings from 10-10:50 am. My Tot & Me: This class is for skaters that are 2-3 years old with little or no skating experience. They will learn basic balance and skating skills in a fun introductory class. Mom or Dad are out on the ice too, which alleviates young kids anxiety. Snowplow Sam 1-3: This class is for skaters 4-5 years old with little or no skating experience. They learn basic balance and skating skills. This is a fun introductory class in an age appropriate setting. Skaters will develop preliminary conditioning and strength to maneuver on the ice. Basic 1-8: This class is for skaters 6-17 years old. These classes teach the basic fundamentals of skating (forward, backward, glides, stops, etc). These skills can lead to hockey or figure skating. Freeskate 1-6: This class is for all age skaters that have passed Basic 8. This is the point where skaters can choose whether to pursue a recreational or When are classes? What should my child wear? Helmets are required for all Hockey classes. Jackets should allow for easy mobility. Layering is the best option. Please make sure mittens and gloves fit properly, and are waterproof. Pants should allow free movement and in the beginning levels, they offer some extra padding. Snowpants are a good option for beginners, as skaters pass through the levels make the move to lighter pliable pants. Make sure skates are tied securely and snug at the ankle. Adult: This class is for skaters 18 and older. This is designed for mature skaters interested in learning how to skate. Classes are geared towards a skaters ability. Synchronized (Synchro) 1-4: This is for skaters in Basic 3 and above. This is an introduction to synchronized skating. We introduce the five basic elements: circle, wheel, intersection/transition, line, and a block. Hockey 1-4: This class is for all ages, but skaters need to have passed Snowplow Sam 3 or Basic 1 . This class is designed for students to learn and develop the skating skills necessary for hockey. Skaters must wear hockey skates and a helmet. Skaters may wear full hockey gear, but it is not required. Class time is based on the age and skill level of the child. The cost is $11 per lesson and an annual $12 USFS membership. These fees are paid at the time of registration *We will NOT allow late additions to our 6-week Learn to Skate sessions.
