A Resident’s Story
My name is Lauren. I came to H.I.S. House without a job, car or housing. I
am a single mom with two young girls. The world is a very scary place when you
are on your own, especially if you’re responsible for the care of others (children).
During my time at H.I.S. House, I took advantage of all they offered. It can

Donor Spotlight
Loren & Ruth Rhynard bought a new car and didn’t know what to do with
their old car. They took great care of the car and wanted it to go to someone
who needed it. After learning that H.I.S. House would help them donate it to a
family at the shelter, they called and were connected with Lauren.
The Rhynard’s gave Lauren her first car! It used to take her 2 hours to get

allowed her to spend more quality time with her family, got her to work
on-time, and enabled her success.
Thank you Loren and Ruth. Your donation changed Lauren’s life.

We received so many donations that we were able to donate 10 backpacks
each to Melrose Elementary School in Placentia and Price Elementary School
in Anaheim.
Placentia Girl Scout Troops designed, built and led games and activities for
the kids to play. There were 10 different booths that included ping-pong toss,
lollipop tree, and even face painting. The Girl Scouts brought bears they
made at Build-a-Bear especially for the kids at HIS House.

MUSIC AND ART THERAPY FOR KIDS
Two times a week, children at HIS House participate in ceramics and ukulele
classes. The Muckenthaler Cultural Center in Fullerton received a grant from
the Johnny Carson Foundation to provide these classes at our house. Through
these classes the kids are able to express themselves and find healthy coping
strategies. Thank you to the Carson Foundation and the Muckenthaler for
supporting our children with these important programs.
POLISHED GIRLZ BALL
Every other weekend for the past 3 years, the Polished Girlz come to HIS House.
Polished Girlz was started to bring sparkle to the lives of children by bringing
the trendiest nail art parties to them. This year, Founder Alanna Wall and the
Polished Girlz are coming HIS House for their 2nd Annual Ball. In November,
the residents will be treated to an evening out, complete with a red carpet, DJ,
and even celebrities. Each child will receive a fancy gown or shirt and bow tie to
wear that night. Watch for the pictures in the next newsletter!
Thank you to our community for supporting H.I.S. House.
Sincerely,
Carrie Buck
