The Peter Marsh Library September 2012 NEW Library Developments We welcome you back to the Peter Marsh Library. Over the summer we have been making major changes to our learning spaces in order to provide you with excellent new services and facilities, informed by feedback from our student users. Take a look at these new developments. 24hr Opening Access to T2 Computer Rooms From 1st October we are planning to provide 24 hour, seven day access to the Library during term. This means that outside of normal library hours there will be security controlled access to self service facilities. The T2 (Tree) computer rooms are now part of the Library. Access for staff and students to: To use, you must show your University ID card to the security guard. The night time entrance will be opposite the Chaplaincy and through the Library Green door. NEW Computer area The brand new Lower SLZ Computer Zone will open on the 25th September following the Freshers’ Week festivities. The area contains 28 Dell Touch-screen computers and eight iMacs running our site licensed software packages including MS Office 2010 and Adobe Creative Suite. • Larch, T2-56 • Juniper, T2-60 • Maple, T2-64 • Pine T2-66 • Rowan, T2-68 is through the main Library and up the Staircase 4 at the back of the library, next to the Quiet Study Area. Timetables for each room will be posted on the doors. When not timetabled, the rooms can be used for overflow open access computing. The Tree rooms are available during normal library hours only. Disabled Access will be through the card controlled entrance on T2. Only students registered with the Disability Service will be able to use this entrance. This entrance is alarmed and monitored. Room 365 is Changing Email and the Student Portal With the new 24hour Library, all out of hours computing access will be concentrated in the main Library. Room 365 will now be renamed as The Upper SLZ Computer Zone. The University policy is that all email correspondence will be conducted through your University email address only. Please ensure that you log in and check your email regularly. This will continue to be available during normal library hours only, and will close at the end of the day. As we adjust to the new 24hour library we will be continuing to enhance our services and adjust our learning spaces to improve the study environment. You will need to use your ID Card and follow the instructions on the cabinets. The system automatically issues and returns the laptop against your library record. During the year there will be a number of further developments including: The loan period is for 3 hours and there is an escalating fine of £5 in each hour, for late returns, to ensure we share the service as widely as possible New Software We recently purchased a site licence for Adobe Creative Suite (Master version) and MS Office 2010 and these packages will now be installed on all student workstations across the Campus. www.bolton.ac.uk/library @BoltonUniLib • A new secure second entrance to the Library. • Improvements to the Law Library • An increase in group study spaces • Improved information on our resources All our changes comes as a result of student feedback.
