Creating healthier communities, together Dear Friend of Providence, We are blessed with your generosity and commitment in our ongoing journey of providing excellent, compassionate service to our patients and communities. Because of your support, 2014 proved to be a banner year that will allow Providence in Oregon to make significant advances in the fight against cardiovascular disease and cancer and to take many other important steps forward. We hope you enjoy and are inspired by all of the stories you helped make possible in this annual report. Because of you, children in speech therapy are communicating with their families with the help of digital devices, frail elders living on the north coast are receiving improved care, and horticultural and aquatic therapy programs continue to play important roles in our continuum of care. “Thank you” seems inadequate, but it is heartfelt. Providence literally couldn’t be Providence without your faith, enthusiasm, support, talents and energy. Together, we are creating healthier communities. Thank you wholeheartedly on behalf of all those we serve. Funded by Providence Milwaukie Foundation, this program helps to identify foodinsecure families during medical visits and connects them to food assistance and nutrition education. In addition to food shortages, many parents also lack basic nutritional education and awareness. Food insecurity puts children at higher risk for developmental problems, educational failure, frequent illness and nutritional inadequacies. Young children and families are being provided with better nutrition information and food resources, thanks to the new screen and intervene program at Providence Milwaukie Hospital. Thanks to generous community and donor support, Providence Milwaukie Foundation has raised $218,000 toward a $250,000 goal for this important community program, which will have an impact on thousands of children and families in our area. n Giving newborns a healthy start Providence Milwaukie Hospital opened a postpartum clinic for new moms and their babies in the summer of 2014. With a commitment to helping new mothers provide the best nutrition for their newborns, the clinic offers lactation consultation and includes a small shop with products to support breastfeeding and pumping. Certified nurse midwives meet with new moms to review breastfeeding techniques and to evaluate babies for jaundice, feeding issues and weight gain. This clinic reflects Providence’s commitment to providing moms and babies with excellent care in their local neighborhood. This service would not be possible without loyal donor support.
