Marblehead has been a part of the
NOOD series since 1998. Following Marblehead, the Sperry TopSider NOOD Regatta series will sail
on to Larchmont, N.Y., Sept. 12-13.
Additional venues for 2009 include
St. Petersburg, Fla., San Diego,
Calif., Annapolis, Md., Seattle,
Wash., Detroit, Mich., Chicago, Ill.
and Houston, Texas.
Created by Sailing World magazine in 1988, the NOODs attract
nearly 2,000 boats and more than
30,000 competitors and spectators
annually. Each event in the series
features multiple days of sailboat
racing for one-design models from
20 to 70 feet in length.
In addition to local sailors, sailing’s top stars, including America’s
Cup and Olympic champions, are
well represented at the NOODs.
Competitive sailors rate the
NOODs as the top national event in

Touring the country to find the
most competitive sailboat at each of
its nine stops to race in its championship event, the Sperry Top-Sider
National Offshore One Design
(NOOD) Regatta will set sail in
Marblehead, July 23-26, for its seventh leg of the 2009 series.
More than 1,000 sailors throughout the United States and beyond
will set sail on Massachusetts Bay
for the four-day-long sailboat race to
compete for individual fleet trophies
and the coveted Marblehead
NOOD overall title.
The overall winner in Marblehead will be invited to participate in
the NOOD Regatta Championships
in the British Virgin Islands in
November, competing aboard Sunsail 39s against the overall winners
from each stop in the NOOD regatta
series.
Throughout the regatta, each boat
will accumulate points based on
placement in each race. The boat
finishing with the lowest total score
in each fleet will be declared the
class winner, earning a fleet trophy.
At the conclusion of the four-day
