Three nations Three appeals ONE PURPOSE Bringing real peace to TURKEY On 25th April 1915, the New Zealand and Australian Army Corps landed on the Gallipoli Peninsula with the objective to open the Dardanelles to the Allied Forces. The resistance of the defenders of the Ottoman Empire (now Turkey) was fierce, terrifying and brutal. The ‘so called’ ‘gallant strategy’ turned into an eight month stalemate which resulted in over 7,991 NZ causalities, including 2,779 kiwi boys who died of battle wounds or disease and never came home. Freephone: 0800 4 NEEDS (63337) www.internationalneeds.org.nz We also want to be in a position to continue to support the INT Team as they carry on to care for the tens of thousands of refugees from Syria who have fled across the border to Turkey to find peace and security in a war torn region. Will you help us bring real peace to this ancient war torn land? At the beginning of the 21st century International Needs Turkey (INT) began its ministry in Turkey that included Turkish descendants of Gallipoli soldiers. To mark the 100th Anniversary of the landings at Gallipoli, International Needs New Zealand (INNZ) in partnership with INT are planning to produce and distribute 10,000 booklets (printed in Turkish and English) on ‘what brings real peace’. This will be handed out to the 1000’s of folk that will attend ANZAC and Turkish remembrance gatherings in Turkey during the month of April. March 2015 International Needs New Zealand. www.InternationalNeeds.org.nz Bougainville work strives for self-sufficiency Their one and only solution, after much discussion and two trips by NZ board member Kit Jensen (at his own expense), is to make their partly completed guesthouse operational. It is planned that there will be ten double bedrooms on the first floor. There is room and plans to build ten more below. It also needs a toilet and shower block to make it fully functional. It is well located by the Buka passage between the two islands, where water taxi boats take people from the main island, to the island of Buka. At present the main airport is at Buka. It is not far from the transportation hub where trucks leave to take people all over the main island. Their target guests are locals who come to Buka to sell produce and do business. Our target is $50,000 to complete the guesthouse. Our board member, Kit Jensen, has offered to oversee the project. We believe that when the guesthouse is working at capacity, it will not only supplement the existing ministry work, but will have funds that they can set aside to grow new ministries. We have a team from a church in the Waikato that are exploring the possibility of helping with the build later in the year, perhaps there are other churches that might be keen to lend a hand to fundraise and help build? Self-sustainability is one of our core values, and by helping make this guesthouse a reality it will ensure a viable source of funds for the future and break their dependency for much of their income to come from overseas. How can you help make this happen? Donate Money If everyone who gets this appeal letter gave $100 then we would be more than well on our way to reach our goal. Donate Skills If your church has some practical people, why not put a team together and come to Buka and work on the guesthouse project? Donate Time Pray for the work of Kidron Ministries (our IN partner in Bougainville), that it might prosper and grow as it evangelises and plants churches in this young island nation. Their major donor in NZ has announced they are planning to reduce the annual amount they send. This will threaten the viability of their work as church offerings at present, are not enough to support most pastors as many of the churches are quite new church plants.
