THE ULTIMATE CALF HYGIENE PROTECTION

THE ULTIMATE CALF
HYGIENE PROTECTION
One technology providing a complete
range of calf hygiene protection:
• Calving area hygiene
• Calf pen / hutch hygiene
• Feeding / utensil hygiene
An ounce of prevention…
THE ACEPSIS CALF
HYGIENE TECHNOLOGY:
Acepsis Calf Hygiene is part of a base / activator technology that
contains powerful cleaning and hygiene agents that have been
proven to be effective against a wide range of on-farm problems,
along with cleansing and protecting of calf habitat and feeding
equipment. Developed and formulated specifically for aiding in the
management and control of disease causing organisms in calf raising
facilities. Ensuring a proper environment for each animal is key to
a successful calf raising program. A good environment starts with
exceptional hygiene practices.
The 3 Primary Pathogen Exposure Points:
Every calf raiser knows that keeping calves healthy is neither
simple nor easy. When pathogens to which calves are exposed
“outweigh” the immune resources, calves get clinically ill. One of the
key elements is to reduce pathogens at their source, using proper
hygiene procedures.
The three primary pathogen exposure points for newborn and
pre-weaned calves are the: 1) the calving pen, 2) calf housing, 3)
calf feeding equipment and utensils. By systematically identifying
the primary pathogens at each of these exposure points a producer
can select the most effective hygiene procedures to reduce harmful
pathogens in calf’s environment.

Rinse all equipment / utensils with warm water
(110°F/45°C) removing organic material before
washing;
Soak in hot water (140°F/60°C) sink with a
chlorinated alkaline detergent (pH: 10 – 11) for
approximately 5 minutes;
Wash vigorously with brush for 1 – 2 minutes;
Remove alkaline solution and fill sink with cold rinse
water;
Add Calf Hygiene solution to the rinse water creating
a 50 PPM ClO2 dilution (Example: Add 1 gallon of 500
PPM - Calf Hygiene Concentrate to 10 gallons of rinse
water);
Allow equipment / utensils / bottles / nipples to air
dry thoroughly prior to re-use
Remove all bedding and organic material from pens /
hutches;
Thoroughly rinse hutches / pen walls / floors with
warm water, from high to low;
Apply chlorinated alkaline foaming detergent on
pen / hutch / floor surfaces. Soak surfaces for
approximately 5 – 10 minutes;
Scrub surfaces thoroughly;
Rinse with cold water, removing alkaline detergent;
Spray all surfaces with Calf Hygiene Concentrate
diluted to 100 PPM ClO2 / < 3 pH;
Allow to dry prior to re-use
Close all walls / outside ventilation to seal targeted
environment;
Wear appropriate safety gear, including breathing,
eye and gloves when working with 500 PPM ClO2;
Remove all animals from targeted environment;
Use approximately 5 gallons of 500 PPM ClO2 per
10,000 cubic feet of area;
Turn on fogging equipment and leave area (40
minutes / 10,000 ft.);
Allow approximately 60 minutes of contact time;
Open walls / turn on ventilation for approximately 60
minutes prior to bring animals back to targeted area.
