MeECL Secondary School, Sumer Me.E.C.L. Secondary School, Sumer is an English Medium co- educational school established in 1969. Formerly known as Sumer High School, the school was run by the erstwhile Meghalaya State Electricity Board. Presently, the School is being run by the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited and it provides education for the children of Me.E.C.L.‘s employees, it also caters to the needs of the children in and around the village. Initially, the school was located at the site of the Generation – I office, at Sumer No 4, but it had been shifted to the present site, at Byrwa, in 1983. The School which had a humble beginning as a proceeding high school from 1985. The first batch of 3 students to the HSLC Examination appeared in 1987. The School got its recognition from the Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBOSE) in August 1995. The School celebrated its silver jubilee celebration with pomp and glory in 1994. In time, the school has gained strength. MeECL Secondary School, Sumer, with more than six hundred students, is proud to be one of the schools who have continually excelled in both academic and extra curricular activities. Academic achievements (In Board’s Examinations) The School secured positions in the State Board’s Exams whose positions and names are mentioned below:1995:- 5th Position in General list - Kuldeep Chowbay 2. 1997:- 1st & 4th Positions in the General list - Tandra Biswas &. Jaydeep Bhattacharjee. Tandra Biswas broke the M.B.O.S.E. record in SSLC, securing highest marks in four subjects with letter in Mathematics, Science, Health Education and Social Science. 1. 3. 1999:- 2nd Position in the General list - Shilpi Agarwal. 4. 2002:- 6th Position in the General list - Aswathy Viswambharam. 5. 2004:- 2nd Position in the General list & 1st Position in the Tribal list - Raja Bipul Warjri. 6. 2008:- 2nd Position in the General list - Sourav Ghosh. All through the years, the School has endowed a very good pass percentage in the SSLC Examinations. Our students have been passing well with highest marks and letter marks in various subjects. Anjumoni Boruah won the District Essay Competition and the All India Talent search Examination. The school is also actively participating in Inter school sports of the District and in different football tournaments including Subroto Cup. 2005.
