Have you ever heard of The Lightning Thief? This essay is about Rick Riordan,
the person who wrote the book, The Lightning Thief. Riordan was born June 5, 1964,
in San Antonio, TX. He was a boy scout, and a teacher. He’s written the Percy
Jackson Series, The Heroes of Olympus Series, and The Kane Chronicles. He is
planning to write about Norse mythology in the future. Rick Riordan is a very wellknown author of fiction novels based on Greek and Roman mythology.
In the first Percy Jackson book, The Lightning Thief, there are two characters,
Mr. Brunner and Mrs. Dodds, who are based on actual people from Rick Riordan’s life.
In the novel, Mr. Brunner is a centaur named Chiron, and Mrs. Dodds is a Fury,
which is a winged evil demon. In real life, Mr. Brunner taught Latin at the school
where Rick Riordan taught. Mrs. Dodds was a math teacher there. The Lightning Thief,
and all most all of his books are set in a place called Camp Half-Blood. There is a
place in Austin, TX called BookPeople, and they manage a summer camp modeled
after Camp Half-Blood from The Lightning Thief.
Percy Jackson was created after Riordan’s son, Haley, who has ADHD, and
dyslexia. In the series, almost all the demigods (half-bloods) have ADHD and dyslexia.
The book The Lighting Thief started off as a bedtime story for Haley. Then Haley told
his father that he should turn it into a book because it was so excellent.

Rick Riordan is a very well-known writer, and he has many books for children
and adults, too! I think his books are very well-written, and humorous. You should
