If you have additional questions or need clarification of any answers contained in this document, please contact your Customer Experience Manager. General Topics Question: What is Apple Pay? Answer: Apple Pay is an in-store and in-app (mobile) payment method providing a secure process for consumers to purchase goods and services. Question: How does Apple Pay work? Answer: Consumers will load their card information (Visa, MasterCard, or American Express) to Apple Pay, similar to setting-up a digital wallet. In-store purchases are done by using Near Field Communication (NFC) technology built into the iPhone 6 with any NFC-enabled terminal at the retail POS. For in-app purchases, the consumer need only select Apple Pay as the payment method in your application. You will need to modify your application to use Apple Pay as a payment method. Question: Does Apple Pay support Discover cards? Answer: Not at this time. Document Version: 1.0 1 © 2014 Vantiv, LLC - All Rights Reserved. Vantiv ECommerce and Apple Pay™ FAQs General Topics Question: When will Apple Pay be available? Answer: Apple Pay will be available on the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus sometime in October, after the release of a free upgrade to iOS 8. Question: How much will Apple Pay cost? Answer: Apple will not charge consumers or merchants. Apple will receive an undisclosed amount per transaction from either the issuing bank, the card networks, or both. Question: Are there different requirements for a PayFac? Answer: No. Accepting Apple Pay will work the same for a PayFac as a traditional merchant. Question: What is an Apple Pay PKPaymentToken? Answer: The PKPaymentToken is an encrypted data package created by the Apple Pay server using your public key. This package contains several components including the network token and a cryptogram. Question: What is the cryptogram? Answer: The cryptogram returned by Apple Pay is a component of the PKPaymentToken that is unique to the transaction and acts as a security key. It is 40 characters in length and created using the merchant’s public key supplied to Apple during the merchant registration process. Question: What is a network (aka EMVCo) token? Answer: A network token is a surrogate value for a PAN that is between 13 and 19 digits (typically format preserving) and is MOD-10 compliant (passes Luhn check). All network tokens will use BIN ranges designated for tokens and never overlap or conflict with a real PAN. 2 Document Version: 1.0 © 2014 Vantiv, LLC - All Rights Reserved. Vantiv iQ Topics Vantiv ECommerce and Apple Pay™ FAQs Question: What is EMVCo? Answer: EMVCo is an organization, originally established by Europay, MasterCard, and Visa, that "...exists to facilitate worldwide interoperability and acceptance of secure payment transactions. It accomplishes this by managing and evolving the EMV® Specifications..." (from www.EMVCo.com). Question: Is Apple Pay an alternative payment method (similar to PayPal) with conveyed transaction fees? Answer: Yes and no. Apple Pay is similar to PayPal to the extent that, as with many PayPal transactions, Apple Pay uses a credit/debit card to complete the transaction. Unlike PayPal, Apple Pay is not involved in the settlement. The transaction, after Apple Pay returns the PKPaymentToken, is virtually identical to any credit card transaction. This means, for Visa and MasterCard transactions, Vantiv performs the settlement, while American Express transactions are conveyed. Question: I am strictly a card-not-present merchant without an iOS native mobile application. Can customers use Apple Pay on my site? Answer: No. Apple Pay in its current form does not support website purchases. Consumers can only use Apple Pay at properly equipped Point-of-Sale locations and in iPhone 6 mobile applications designed to interact with Apple Pay. Vantiv iQ Topics Question: When handling a consumer question, can my Customer Service Representatives use the last 4 digits of the network token to search for transactions in iQ? Do I need other information about the customer/transaction to perform a search? Answer: We will add the capability to search by the last 4 digits of the network token in 2015. Other Topics Vantiv ECommerce and Apple Pay™ FAQs methods discussed in the Vantiv eCommerce Solution for Apple Pay document? Answer: Each solution has some associated coding requirements. The actual extent of the coding is difficult to estimate, since each case/merchant will be different. For example, if you are already making use of the Vantiv Mobile API, additional coding to submit Apple Pay transactions to Vantiv would be small. On the other hand, if you currently use an older version of LitleXML coding requirements would be greater. Document Version: 1.0 7 © 2014 Vantiv, LLC - All Rights Reserved.
